The compartment it's durable, it's a bit hard to open but not impossible. It has a secret compartment in the bottom and kids loved it. My daughter is 3 and enjoying playing with kinetic sand.

I bought blue kinetic sand with tray for my 3 year old granddaughter's birthday and loves it! Since her Christmas celebration was in a different location, I bought multiple colors with tools for her gift. I have photos of her playing with it outside. She loves the texture and creativity. A win!
