Woodless pencils are so fun to color with if you have ever used them. I definitely prefer them to regular wood pencils. They are sharpened the same way but be extra careful as they are a lot more messy to sharpen since there's no wood to hold it together and you end up with a mess of colored pencil shavings. Also, other reviewers are correct when saying these break much easier than wood pencils. My friend used one of the green pencils to help mold a piece of clay she was working with and the beautifully crafted pencil snapped right in half before my innocent eyes - one of the most terrifying sights you can witness! If you're looking for more color variation, they do offer another set with more colors. The price-point is a bit lower than Michael's which is a plus, but a coupon at Michael's could easily get you them for cheaper (keep an eye out for those 50% off regular priced item coupons!!!). Overall, this is a great addition to any artist's collection and great for the beginner artist who wants to experiment with different mediums. The way it lays color on the paper is much nicer than any old Crayola colored pencil, that's for sure! So yes: while it may cost significantly more than a standard 12 pack of Crayola colored pencils, it's well worth it as the quality is so superior to Crayola.

These are just plain beautiful colored pencils and they work so smoothly. You don't get a lot of waste with all the wood surrounding the colored portions, though it does make it a tiny bit more sensitive to pressure, but not enough to be a deal breaker. I bought this as a reward for a student who earns points. (I work in a special education center for high school girls, and often, incentive prizes are great for those with organizational difficulties. This student is a gifted artist and can't afford art materials, so those are my prizes based on my experience with products I've already used, as this one is.) It comes in a neat little package, but one which can degrade over time. I do wish it came in a little tin that was more durable since these are best for carrying around to do "spot" sketching, and the present packaging is just not durable enough for that. But the pencils are great - and I'm a big fan of woodless art pencils, graphite, charcoal, anything I can find without wood. It just lasts longer. A great addition to these pencils wood be a pencil extender that Koh-I-Noor puts out. It's right here on Amazon and really fits well, extending the life and use of stubby little pencils.

These colored pencils have a heavy, dense feeling in hand. I think that helps stabilize my hand when using them for drawing. The lack of wood for protection makes these fairly easy to break. Dropping one on hard floor would most likely shatter one into many pieces. One of the pencils was broken during shipping, but only the tip. I used a manual sharpener and it sharpened easily. The outer portion of the pencil is painted, so there's nor problem with the color transferring except from the sharpened end.I enjoy being able to use the end for broad strokes or the tip for fairly narrow lines. The pencils give good color density and the color matches the pencil paint color well.

Wonderful color pencils very soft and blend well. Woodless helps to use the full trip edge, and they produce great color! Only issue is they are so fragile. Broke two of them in half just by holding it to tight in my hand, and another few broke in 2-3 pieces after rolling off the table.

These are essentially sticks of pure pigment- if you drop them, they WILL break, just like dropping a wooden pencil annoyingly breaks the ‘lead’. ;)However, these particular woodless pencils are my absolute favorites, and I’ve tried a few. The color is smooth and blends well. I like the color options this brand offers. Pretty much the only color that might be able to top these would be if Prismacolor started offering woodless options!

I have artists colored pencils that cost more, but I certainly don't have any that I prefer to these. If you want your art done beautifully, BUY THESE KOH-I-NOOR WOODLESS COLORED PENCILS! Do keep in mind though that without wood, they can break easier, although they sharpen really well, so you'll want to have some good, secure pencils stub holders for the smaller ends you may wind up with. Not a problem however. Just insert the short end in the holder and DRAW ON! You'll find you LOVE these as much as I do and my other artist friends! ENJOY! :)

Really like the way they color. Blend nicely. Was disappointed that the orange was broken in sealed box.

These were recommended by a friend to me. I was pleased with the quality of color and smoothness of writing. But, in the hands of eager 7 and 8 year olds (I teach 2nd grade this year), the shafts of the pencils easily broke in half.My recommendation is to buy them for the color and smoothness of drawing/writing. But do not expect durability.

Rare pensil with true vibrants colors. First time I bought those was in a store for $13. Those are fragile cause woodless and broke a few, so was looking for a new set. Price on amazon made me think 2x before buying but cant find those anywhere anymore. Nor a similar pensil set that has those vibrant pigment.

These are wonderful coloured pencils to work with. Colour is smooth and vibrant.Koh-I-Noor Woodless Colored Pencils are very versatile, from creating fine lines to very broad strokes of colour. This set of 12 is a nicely balanced assortment of colours for a great price. Highly recommended.
