I am replacing 4 entry knobs and deadbolts with new ones from Amazon. That meant I needed to rekey 6 locks to match. No problem with this kit, and enough pins and parts to rekey or repair many more. The tools did the trick with one small addition (a paperclip). This order did have a problem that had me call their support phone. How a company handles a problem tells me a lot about their integrity quality. It happened my kit had 2 little baggies of #5 pins but no #4. Easy to understand how this might happen with non-color-coded pins. When I got called the person I spoke with immediately got what I was calling about and sent out a new bag of #4 pins with apology and no hassles (other than the call). I think service is part of the product and I'd rank my experience as 5 stars.I had 2 styles of doorknobs. One is the common kind where you remove the spindle and push out the keyway. That's the easier kind and there are a bunch of YouTube videos showing how this works. For the other where I had to rotate the outer handle and use a paperclip to press a release through a little hole at the base of the outer knob. When released the knob pulls right off with the keyway inside. There is a plate on the back I had to slide off, then the keyway fell out into my hand. From here out the process was pretty much the same.Since there are so many videos I'll not go into the details except while the pin detection tool is accurate I just did it by feel. I put in pins and felt when they were flush with the top of the removed cylinder core. Both work easy enough. The tools all worked fine for me though with the "pull the knob off" style using the pickle fork to get the C ring off was a bit more difficult than the "remove the spindle" style. The deadbolt process was the same for all mine. Lots of videos. NOTE: With a KW-1 style deadbolt be careful not to let the pin and spring fly out when taking off the cap!! The brass tool included holds down the pin letting you easily unscrew and replace it and allow the cylinder to come out, but one of mine had the pin and spring go flying (my bad here!) and I was lucky to find both. Once the cylinder is out the process is again the same for rekeying. In conclusion I'm very happy with this rekeying kit. It does everything I need with the addition of a paperclip. Customer service was excellent and though it would have been better not to need to call I recognize I got no hassle and friendly support. That's worth something to me too. Finally I got to learn how to rekey Kwikset KW-1 compatible locks and how they work. Learning how things work is a plus for me. It should be no surprise I'm giving this rekeying kit 5 stars. It helped me reach my goal and I had fun learning about this type of lock.

this is a nearly complete Kwikset re-key kit. It includes all if the special tools, cylinder followers, top pins and springs, bags of pins #1-6. and a very handy pin height gauge that works. The only items missing are a couple of tail-stock nut lock pins and springs, which, of course, you aren't supposed to let go "ping tic in the first place. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

Everything else is fine and I would give it full marks if it hadn’t even included the gauge. But since they put it in it should be usable, and it’s not.Okay, I’m putting a point back because I didn’t have a deadbolt cap remover and that’s handy.

I bought this kit when we moved into our new house, it had a total of 4 Kwikset deadbolts of various vintages that needed rekeying. I had never rekeyed a lock prior to buying this kit but after doing some research, I decided I was up to the task. I used it alongside an older copy of the Kwikset rekeying manual. The key gauge was very accurate and made it easy to get the pin sizes based on the master key. The removal tool is a bit thin and made with fairly light metal, so I ended up bending it a tad, but that's easy enough to remedy and it's a simple tool that can probably be improvised if need be. The follower worked great too, it's another simple tool (plastic cylinder) but did exactly what it needed to without any guff. I did not use the deadbolt cap remover as part of my rekeying.I didn't need to use the top pins, covers, springs, or clips as I was just swapping bottom pins, but I found them all to be accurately sized and packed. I checked a few of the bottom pins with digital calipers, all within .001" of nominal. After finishing the first deadbolt the remaining 3 went very quick, easily under 5 minutes each. All have worked great since, both with the original key and copies. My only advice would be better packaging. Tiny zip locks are ok, but a small plastic case with compartments for each piece would make this a better kit to keep around after the first use. Luckily I had one lying around, but I would have paid another $5 or so to have one included. That's really only a convenience thing though, so no need to deduct a star. The price I paid was very fair and was far less than rekeying just one of the 4 locks, so I saved money and learned a new skill to boot. Win win in my opinion.

As you can see from the photo contain C clips not E clips why I don't know but it didn't matter for me I reused the ones on the locks I was working with. I purchased this sent to rekey a bunch of locks I have to cut down and all the keys I have to carry. I rekeyed seven locks so far so the kit already paid for itself. I use the measuring guide on a key and wrote down my code and went at it rekeying cylinders. Thank goodness this kit came with springs since I destroyed one and another one flew off somewhere. I did have to watch one YouTube video how to rekey door knob because it has been a while since I rekeyed one. Next locks on my list to rekey are different brands but use the same pins. So inclusion this is a great kit for rekeying as long as you have some mechanical skills. Update So I was successfully able to rekey three Defiant locks with this kit. Of course on the knob lock requires a different tool to dismantle but with a small screwdriver I was able to take it apart. Now I use my kwikset key in my Defiant locks. My keychain just got two keys lighter. I also re-keyed two more kwikset door knob style locks and low and behold they had the C clip that is included in this rekey kit so mystery solved about the C clip included in kit.
