I got this grinder in white here for salt, and got an identical black one from another vendor for pepper since it was out of stock here. I was replacing some C&M ones that required six AAA batteries, and found that many models listed here were very similar, some with names you've heard of, some not. I speculate that all run on the same/similar six-AAA drivetrain from China. My old ones were terrible (falling apart even under normal use and depleting batteries at a stupendous rate), so I wanted to avoid all those similar ones. These Kycoera ones run on four AA batteries so were an obviously different drivetrain. Sure enough, it is fabulous. The build quality is far better than on my old C&M ones. The open, close, and lock movements are crisp and tight. The burrs are pretty big and run very smoothly. The motor turns comparatively more slowly than on my old six-AAA units, yet grinds better. The unit has a very large capacity, so needs filling less often than my old, narrower units. A great plus is the stand that the grinder perches on. It doubles as a cup that catches loose remaining particles after each use, so that (a) those don't end up all over your countertop; and (b) every so often you can pitch the contents of the stand into a recipe and so not waste salt/pepper. Nice touch. Finally: I have had this grinder for nearly six months now, and have not yet had to replace the batteries for the first time. The only downside of this grinder is I might like a wider available range of coarse to fine adjustment.FYI: Amazon has a separate listing of this same product, but saying "Japan Domestic genuine products," and at a higher price. I have no idea what that is, but you seemingly don't need it. This product that I'm reviewing (regular listing without the "Japan Domestic" note) says on the box "Made in Japan," so I don't know what the other item with the price premium is about.EPILOGUE April 2020: I've finally just replace the batteries (in the pepper grinder, not salt) for the first time. This means they lasted almost TWO YEARS (in daily use), and in fact technically the old batteries were only labouring and turning the grinder extremely slowly, not fully dead. As I alluded to above, my old grinders went through six AAA batteries approx. every six weeks, so the comparative savings in batteries (cost-wise, and in terms of not filling the landfill with dead batteries) is massive with this grinder.

Just got it....put in rechargeable batteries...filled with dried Celtic Sea Salt and love that after many years of various hand grinders, I finally have an electric experience. If you are considering this....please be comfortable with "mechanical aspects" of this grinder. I will update when the batteries wear out...but this should not be an issue with rechargeable batteries from amazon..should it? I would be comfortable giving this and the paper grinder to my daughter for Xmas.

I really like that it uses 4AA. It add hefts and power to the motor. The grind is great, almost comparable to my manual Peugeot which is twice as expensive but made in France vs this China made Japanese design one. Only time will tell because my Peugeot seems to last a lifetime and still looks and work great after decades of use. I really like the stand, it’s a great design decision.

I had gotten used to having a light to see the actual product being dispensed from a previous grinder. I bought this grinder based on it being made by Kyocera in Japan. I also wish that the peppercorn bin was a little larger. If I had designed this, I would have put a small hand rest stop like on the end of it like a baseball bat. I feel somewhat insecure that it would slip out of my hand and drop into a pot of soup or stew while using it. Otherwise as a grinder, it is excellent.

I was very hesitant to spend twice as much on such a trivial item especially when there are so many others that are a fraction of this one.So I didn't and bought a different brand and after 1yr, tons of frustration due to not working-underpowered electric grinders, and about a dozen batteries I decided to give it a shot. These things are absolutely perfect, they work 100% of the time and NEVER GET STUCK. Also in 9 months still 1 set of batteries. We'll see how long they last. We are 6 people at home and all of us use it every day.Got another for pepper, expensive but love it.I admit it is a luxury item, but why get a luxury item that doesn't work?

I bought one for pepper and it worked well, but I noticed that the base comes off too easily. To fix this, I bought a set of these bands - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08KFNX22Y . This keeps the base from falling off and also allowed me to color code three grinders - salt, pepper and and herb blend. I bought all black models of the grinder because, at the time, they were $10 less than the white ones.I also use rechargeable batteries in the grinders. These are the best - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JHKSN5I . And this is a good charger - https://www.amazon.com/Tenergy-TN160-12-Bay-Battery-Charger/dp/B006ML9SO0 . The batteries last longer than the "refill" time, but I just swap in a set of charged batteries when I do the refill.

I’ve had this four months now and still using first set of four batteries. So glad I bought this. Not sure why it took me so long. Such a conveience when cooking. Works. Very well. Wish it had greater peppercorn capacity. I have two other manual grind Kyoceras which I use for salt.Update: ten months and counting on the original batteries. We use it virtually everyday, often several times a day.Update: 13 months and the original batteries are still working. When I peppered a large beef rib roast before Christmas I was amazed that it got the job done, running continuously for about a minute and 3-4 minutes total. I just refilled it again today for the second or third time this month.Update: OK! I changed the batteries on 2Feb19! Quite incredible run of 15 months. They were Duracell. I’ve replaced them with Amazon batteries.

I have a problem with my hands and the pepper mill I had was difficult to use. I ordered this and I just love it...it is so easy to use, quiet, and gets the right amount of seasonings on my food

Came next day! A little finicky to load the 4xAA batteries. Nice wide mouth to load pepper and holds a decent amount of pepper. It is fast and not noisy. Easy to adjust the coarseness of the grind. With its ceramic mechanism the pepper comes out nice and evenly ground. Very comfortable to use in my hand. If this lasts this would be a fantastic buy especially for the price! Would have liked a light but considering what you get definitely highly recommended!

Does the job, albeit with a distinct lack of power even with fresh batteries. Also the coarse/fine adjustment doesn’t appear to do much. The base is poorly conceived as the mill is top heavy and easily falls over — don’t use it.Looks good and loads easily.
