I'm not completely overwhelmed by it because it seems that as I burnish with it, the back of the leather kind of rubs off the burnishing gum and the small fibers of leather together into like a string. That's kind of new for me but I'll keep working with it and trying to see if there's any changes.I did use the Tokonole on the side that I showed in the picture that is unfinished and it's kind of hard to tell but I'll do a better picture at another time.... This doesn't burnish nearly as well as Tokonole at all, unfortunately, because there are a lot of fibers that get left behind that don't lay down appropriately with this burnishing gum. It has its pros and its cons against tokenal but it's not a complete one-to-one awful and it's not a complete win so.... I just wanted to let you know that in regards to this laying all of the fibers down it gets about 90% of it but for some reason it doesn't doesn't do it nearly as well as Tokonole.Good notes:I can say right off the bat that one of the things I do like about it is that it doesn't pick up too much of my dye or stain off of the leather which is a super big bonus. I love Tokonole burnishing gum but one of the things that really irks me about it is how much it picks up the color and takes it with it. Now don't get me wrong. It's not entirely bad because Tokonole burnishing gum is one of my favorite burnishing gums and it doesn't necessarily pull too much of the color out as it darkens it because it's still burnishing it. But I just hate how it gets everywhere all over my gloves and it sometimes can taint my work because of the dye pickup. Now in comparison to Tokonole when it comes to dye pickup. I didn't really have too much of a problem with this brand and I'm pleasantly surprised and actually feeling very confident with this. I might continue to use this one specifically for anything that I dye or stain when I don't want it to pick up color because that is a huge bonus that I can't seem to get over with with Tokonole.I guess the really weird thing for me about it is that it has a sweet smell to it, but I guess I'll get over it. I'm not really sure if that's a perfume or it just has to do with the ingredients that they use to make the burnishing gum, but it is kind of a strange scent that I'm not used to.

I have been doing leather for a few years now, and always finish my edges. I typically use beeswax or a Japanese product similar to this one, or sometimes just water. I found this to be similar to the product from Japan, but just a bit thicker. The instruction note to apply with a wool dauber (which wasn't included), but to me, a wool dauber is a poor choice for applying burnishing gum anyway. I use small foamed-ended applicators or my finger.I tested it on some scrap veg tan, applying with my finger (much easier to me than a tool) and found that the thickness of the product made it very easy to do. After drying, I burnished with both an ebony wood rotary tool and a good old piece of canvas (slower but a better finish). I was happy with both - it left a nice shine and very smooth finish. The finished color was slightly darker than the natural veg tan, but this is pretty normal as you compress the leather fibers while burnishing. As a couple of other reviewers have noted, there is a very mild baby powder scent to the product. I didn't find it bothersome and it is just barely noticeable on the leather after it dries. I will be happy to use this on all of my leather projects.

I tried this burnishing gum as soon as I received it, on a piece of scrap veg-tanned leather. I did not receive a dauber although the instructions said I would receive one. I used my own. I allowed the gum to dry until tacky - a few minutes. I noticed that this gum gets absorbed quite a bit as it dries, darkening the leather noticeably. This is probably because the gum is of a thin consistency. I burnished the edge, and it smoothened and shone. So, it works well for burnishing. One disconcerting thing though - I smelt something almost sweet or perfume-like within a few minutes of using this gum. I smelt the burnished leather and it had the same 'fragrance' on the burnished edge! I was startled and washed my hands well with an unscented soap, dried them and then checked the burnishing gum. In the jar, it smelt fine - chemically, but I don't mind that. I took a small amount on my fingers, rubbed it a little and waited for it to dry As it dried, there was the same sweet smell again. I am concerned about this because I do not want to use scented products on my leathers. Leathers hold on to smells and start smelling old and funky when exposed to perfumed materials. The smell disappeared from the scrap leather on which I did the edge burnishing, but it has remained on my fingers, the skin of which is, after all, a type of leather too. After a while, I washed it off because it feels uncomfortable after some time of smelling it constantly. It might or might not linger on other types of leather, but I am a little concerned about this. I am not quite sure why this company has added something that releases a fragrance in an item to be used on leather, which has its own delightful fragrance. Before I use this product on any of the items that I make, I plan to test it on scraps of the same type of leather. On thinking about it, it is possible that heat releases the smell - my fingers are warm, the smell appeared on the scrap leather when burnished - which warms the leather slightly - and then disappeared when it cooled. If I am right and if the company intended this, they should mention it. If not, they have a new USP.

This burnishing gum set works well and does what it’s supposed to. It helps smooth and finish leather edges nicely, giving projects a more polished look. The consistency is good, and it applies easily without making a mess. I normally use saddle soap but this is superior. I'll either stick with this from now on or in combination with saddle soap.Nothing to complain about here, it’s a solid set for anyone doing leatherwork. This gives clean and professional looking edges. It has been a great addition to my kit.
