not plastic, which I love. durable and creates great contact between inked print media and paper. works great with fragile papers (rice paper) and more durable surfaces (watercolor & printmaking papers).still use my hands & fingers sometimes but for even contact, this is wonderful.

I have been using this baren for quite a long time for making monoprints on my gelplate. I use it when I want to apply more pressure to ensure better paint transfer. This baren is great for that, though I expected that it would be a little more solid than a thin piece of black plastic covered with natural fibers. The price is very good, though, for what it is. If anyone is used to using a Speedball red baron or other type, this one will be an adjustment because it is very low profile, but it is still easy to grip on top and use like one would use any other kind of baren.

Well made and very comfortable to use. I love that it’s made with a single bamboo leaf by an artisan.

I was hoping the inner would be real shark skin but it's okay, the leaf is real and nice and treated and in good shape. Super sturdy too. Can't wait to use it!! It LOOKS authentic and I assume it will perform just like one that is. And I say that with a grain of salt because this is as close as you can get for the money.

I find this product very loosely put together. The leaf handle is fastened with twist ties and very loosely put together. Average quality.
