About this item

  • Fits Turbo 400 Transmissions (TH400)
  • Made in USA

Lube Locker gaskets are designed with a steel core that is rubber coated and have Lube Locker’s signature full perimeter elastomer beading on both sides. The result is a gasket that will not split or extrude during installation and has superior torque retention. There is no set up time because installation is dry with no sealant needed!

With this gasket, it stays in my toolbox. While this seemed a little pricey - the transmission filter kit is only about ten bucks (there's tens of millions of the venerable TH400 transmission in use out there and the geniuses at American General chose one for their HMMWV trucks way back when - almost a decade before the 4-speed/overdrive models came about) - a cork or composite paper/fiber material gasket comes in each kit.I don't trust those things. Never have. Decades ago I got used to using Permatex form-a-gasket with motorcycles and English sporty cars. Nasty stuff. Never liked working with it between the smell and the mess. Silicone sealant isn't much better.Seems like no matter how hard you try with those "goops" they wind up on your hand, clothes, the frame, wiring, everywhere but exactly where you want it. If you DON'T put enough on you get a leak. There's likely some arcane art to it (I know, I know, it's like getting to Carnegie hall - practice), but I don't do this kind of thing often enough to know the mysterious ways of gasket sealants.I'd read about this on one of the military vehicle boards, did some reading, looked into reviews and said "what the heck, so it's twice the price of the filter kit, I'm only going to be doing this maybe once or three times in the lifetime of the truck" and it's reusable so I bought one.EZPZ installation.Getting the old gasket stuff off the mating surfaces was key, as it always is. While I had the pan off I layed it up on my mill bed to check for warpage (none), stripped, sandblasted and painted it. (in photo magnet was removed, virtually NO metal was on it - and yes, I replaced it, in case you were wondering). That's the major problem in my mind about using gasket sealant - how much gets into the workings of the transmission and blocks fluid passages, valves, all that. The previous - military - mechanic who did the job slathered on the silicone like KY in a XXX movie. That stuff was everywhere inside AND out.Same with the engine oil pan - at least OUTside - but it doesn't leak so I'm leaving well enough alone. So far so good, months of driving and no leaks. I'd buy this again in a heartbeat.

Gasket worked well. A little spendy, but leak is gone.

Lube Locker THM400 trans pan gasket review. Lube Locker advertises this gasket as having all the right stuff: Metal substrate and 2 different sealing materials. Sounds real good. Inspecting the new gasket they seem to have misjudged the actual sealing surfaces. The THM400 trans pan is NOT a 100% flat flange gasket design. The trans CASE/HOUSING flange is machined flat (100% smooth) BUT the trans PAN is NOT a flat flange (it has both raised and flat sections). The raised areas of the trans pan flange compress the gasket with flat areas of the pan sealing around the pan bolts. The problem with the Lube Locker THM400 gasket is that the gasket is not thick enough to conform to BOTH the flat AND raised surface of the pan. This gasket is estimated to be a uniform 2-3 mils thick AND ALSO not shaped to conform of the pan mating surface. This gasket design might be better for the typical dual machined surfaces found on some thermostat housings, carburetors, etc.

First off, not the cheapest but 100% the best. Well worth the extra $. Cork or rubber cant compete. I have used their products on multiple vehicles and they are great. Including an old Jeep XJ (known to religiously “mark it’s territory” as old jeeps do) and this stopped it. Used it on my old Grand Prix- leak solved. No gasket squeeze out …. Just do it the proper way the first time.

I have a 68' Buick with a Turbo 400 tranny. The original pan was leaking pretty bad and I decided to buy a similar stamped pan with a built in drain plug. I was hoping it was the old bent pan but after 3 times replacing the gasket with cork and felt types is still was leaking. I decided to spend the extra money and buy the Lube Locker gasket. After it arrived I realized that it was very thin and seemed to be made more for a high end pan with a flat surface rather than the raised ridge on a stamp pan. Here is the trick I used to make this work. I placed a felt type ATP gasket on thepan first and thin added the Lube locker on the surface that touches the transmission. essentially 2 gaskets . Hasn't leaked a drop!!Its very important to follow the tightening order shown on the box that the Lube locker came with. Also replace your silonoid "O" ring on the tranny and the shifter shaft seal if you are going through the trouble of dropping your pan. I would have giving it 5 stars but because I needed to double up on gaskets I gave it 4.

I have a old TH400 trans and moroso deep trans pan, every gasket I have tried have failed until I found this Lube Locker Turbo 400 TH400 Transmission Gasket. Even the fancy moroso gasket failed. Now my trans is dry as a bone. I would definitely recommend this gasket.
