In 1997, Peter Mach introduced the Mach One Shoulder Rest for violin and viola, surprisingly the first commercially available shoulder rest made out of the most natural of materials, wood. This model, the Mach One MO7, keeps the same famous ergonomic shape of the original Mach One wooden shoulder rest while minimizing the amount of material used. It is truly minimalist in design and concept. The main innovation is that it is made using a high-tech double-injection mold. The main body of the rest is resilient and strong, while the contact surface is made of a soft, grooved, rubberized compound similar to the sticky grip found on many toothbrushes. It is also easily washable! The sculptured shape of the all Mach One Shoulder Rests mold perfectly to your shoulder. The "S" shape fits comfortably on your shoulder and minimizes the size of the feet. These are molded from a single piece rubber and have a lifetime guarantee. They will never touch the ribs of your violin and will not scratch your valuable instrument.

I've been using the Mach One shoulder rest for years, but needed a replacement ASAP (hence Amazon instead of a real online music supply store). I'm not sure why the preview picture shows a light-colored middle section; I received the normal tan version, if you are concerned like I was. This shoulder rest is extremely no-frills. There is no real padding besides a bit of firm rubber, which also means it's very lightweight. The curve on it is pretty steep, so I feel like it hugs my shoulder-to-collar bone area extremely well. The feet can go reasonably high, so it's worth a shot if you have a long neck and are looking for options. Because it sits decently well off the instrument, I feel like my violin can "speak" a bit more clearly with this shoulder rest compared to some of the more substantially padded types. Also because it sits fairly high off the instrument, there is room to add padding or wrap a cloth around it if you like the shape but need a bit more cushion. I can fit it into my normal rectangular case and my smaller SL Super Light case without issue. In my opinion, this shoulder rest is not particularly compatible with a center-mounted chin rest, so be wary if that is your jam (I would recommend trying the Comford shoulder cradle if that applies to you; they make a taller version for long necks, too).

I returned as soon as I got it, don’t waste your money if you want cushion, it’s a thin piece of plastic and very cheaply made for the price.

Hands down my favorite rest. It is comfortable and always stays put. I have used this rest for over 5 years now and it does not show any wear or tear.

I like this! Admittedly everyone is built different, this one fits right over my shoulder nicely. The cushion is soft and I like the way the shape points my violin straight out and into the sweet spot. Lots of adjustments for height and also back and forth as far as positioning the violin up over the shoulder or down further on the chest. Works for me. A reasonable price as well.

Very hard on the shoulder. I tried and tried to make it work but I'd end up with raw pain after each practice session. I'm a professional violinist and practice 4-5 hours daily. One positive is that it helps the violin sound better compared to my Everest or Kun shoulder rests.
