About this item

  • Compact and ergonomic design at only 5-1/4"
  • Weighs only 2.6 lbs. with battery (battery not included) for reduced operator fatigue
  • Ideal for working in tight spaces
  • Variable speed (0-1,300/0-3,000 RPM & 0-2,000/0-4,100 IPM) for a wide range of fastening applications
  • Assist Mode (A-mode) feature helps eliminate "screw cam-out" and "cross threading" by driving at low speed until tightening begins

The 18V LXT® Sub-Compact Brushless Impact Driver (XDT18ZB) is a fastening solution with significantly less weight. The 18V Sub-Compact Impact Driver offers the size and weight of lower voltage tools, but with the performance, power, and compatibility of 18-Volt. It has an efficient brushless motor with two speed settings and dual L.E.D. lights illuminate the work area. The innovative Assist Mode (A-mode) helps eliminate "screw cam-out" and "cross threading" by driving at low speed until tightening begins and is ideal for driving longer fasteners. It delivers 1,240 in.lbs. of Max Torque. At only 5-1/4 in. and 2.6 lbs. (with 2.0Ah battery sold separately), it is a fastening solution with superior comfort and handling.

It’s part of Makita’s expanding 18V LXT System, the world’s largest cordless tool system powered by 18V lithium-ion slide-style batteries. Makita® 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries have the fastest charge times in their categories, so they spend more time working and less time sitting on the charger.

For improved tool performance and extended battery life, Makita created Star Protection Computer Controls™. Star Protection is communication technology that allows the Star Protection-equipped tool and battery to exchange data in real time and monitor conditions during use to protect against overloading, over-discharging and overheating. For increased versatility, the tool can also be powered by Makita 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Batteries with the star symbol on the battery indicating Star Protection inside.

Tool is nicely compact and lightweight, as well as reasonably priced for what it is. Time will tell about long term durability. Unlike many very compact tools of similar class, this one has its motor part designed to be a lot more narrow, though somewhat longer. This can be very helpful in certain situations (but not in others). It is also surprisingly powerful. With the right adapter and a deep socket, it does remove even some fairly tight wheel bolts (up to 120 ft*lb tightening torque). That type of work is probably something it should not do on a regular basis, but for very occasional use it is very capable, though it's quite obvious the process then is quite noisy. Light on the front of the tool is bright and effective, and the trigger is easy to modulate.

Bought this on a whim. I use it for work. Is compact and light feels good in the hands and has enough juice to deliver. Used to be a Milwaukee guy but now I’m looking for reasons to buy more Makita tools. This gun converted me.

I bought one of these a few years ago at home Depot. Not because I needed it but they had it on the clearance rack for half price and man I really did like it a lot but I unfortunately left it on a job somewhat out of town so I didn't go back for it. I've waited to try to find it again on the clearance rack but no dice so I came here instead and got another one. While it is smaller than the regular brushless Makita impact driver, it is actually a tad bit longer on the top part of it where you would put your chuck or whatever you're using, but that's not a big deal. What I do really like about it is it gives you the option to make it less aggressive so if you don't want to strip stuff out that's really nice. It has three modes of impact force: hard, soft, and assist mode. The item was listed as new and when I got it, it does look brand new aside from not being in the original packaging which is not a problem for me, it did have the documentation that would normally come with it when you buy it new. A great product and dealing with this seller went seamlessly.

So I've owned every brand and they all work ok usually came down to the battery when making my new gun purchase. Previously using a similar blue 18v Makita and already having a battery and charger I decided to try out the "black" Makita. Was disappointed at first that it didn't have the r.p.m my old gun had. What it does have is quality fricken bearings! There is literally ZERO play and wobble at your bit and after over a month driving easily 1k screws a day in the metal department at work there is still ZERO wobble or play at the bit and that makes all the difference. Also lightweight enough it dosent pull my tool belt down along with my shorts when working lol which is nice. Quality gun for sure 👌

This drill is amazing. It’s a compact so don’t compare it to a big non compact drill. Use it for tight corners and love the power for its size

Lightweight and fits my hand. Powerful and I like the auto setting where it starts out slower, then picks up speed and power.Batter life is a function of the battery you have. One can always purchase a beefier battery.

Like the product… but obviously a returned / used drill - in good shape though. First time ever this has happened to me with Amazon. Shame, shame!!
