The picture online does not do this justice. When you see these in person, they are beautiful. The sunburst finish really looks nice. These are also very solid. They were heavier than I thought they would be. They were also quieter than I thought they would be. And if you stuff each one of them with a t-shirt, you can really muffle them so that you can practice without making too much noise. I am a musician who has been playing a number of instruments for a lot of years but hand percussion is new to me. So it is a good thing that I can practice quietly until I get good on them. Especially since I will be playing a lot of the patterns over and over again until I get them down.If you are new to the bongos or hand percussion, you can find a lot of instructional videos online. There are a lot of tricks and techniques to learn when playing the bongos. That's why I recommend that you view the online videos because there are some excellent players in those videos that can give you a good idea as to what the capabilities really are. Just don't let their amazing examples of musicianship intimidate you or discourage you. I know from playing other instruments that it can take some time and effort to really excel on an instrument. Realizing that, I get inspired when I see someone who plays the bongos well.I think the quality of these bongos are well worth the price. I thought of getting a cheaper set of bongos but in the end I decided to pay a little extra and i am glad I did. I think the quality of this set is good enough to where I won't need to replace them with a better set later. Now all I need to do is get my skills to the level that justifies the amount of the purchase. But that will only come with practice and there is no substitute for that.

This set of bongos I ordered for my husband's birthday. He played them a great deal when at school. Back then, they were taller, the kind that stood on the floor. These can be placed on the lap to play, or a table. The bongos arrived a whole day late, thanks to the July 15 sale that dampened my spirits. Nevertheless, he was pleasantly surprised by the set. He is impressed by the quality of sound, and more so, the finish. The set looks sturdy, and has a professional feel to it. I am no judge of instrument quality, but loved the light weight of these. He can tuck them into the car and go any place to play. Only wish they came in a bag, or had some sort of a cover. He has played the bongo for friends. And cannot wait to practice more. Time will tell how well the set lasts though.

These feel and look like the epitome of quality right out of the box. The sound is more accurate than any other bongos I have ever used. Definitely worth spending an extra 50 bucks on beginner bongos because you can tell that they will last for many years and the sound quality is good enough for somebody to truly commit to the hobby and pick up the right techniques. The vintage sunburst is also a great look, and the tuning mechanism is nothing but exactly how it should be. Would buy this product again today if I lost the set I own now.

Comes with a key to tighten the skins which is nice but only needed maybe once a year for a 5 second turning. Sound gets even better with age so I'm very happy with the purchase.

Perfekt. Inzwischen ein paar Jahre im Gebrauch. Viel zu sagen gibt es nicht, wenn alles passt. Tipp: durch Nachziehen der Muttern auch tatsächlich auf ein Intervall stimmen (Vorschläge für das Intervall im Internet) und das geht super mit Smartphone App (wenn man nicht gerade ein Klavier daneben stehen hat)
