About this item

  • FACTORY INSTALLED PICKUPS: comes with three internal Piezo pickups that let you control volume and tone through a PA system or amplifier; turn up your sound in any venue and dial-in your tone
  • WHY IT MATTERS: cajons aren't naturally loud, so if you play with larger combos or in bigger venues, you'll need a volume boost to be heard; these pickups lift the ceiling of normal cajon applications so you can cut through the mix
  • BE SMART: we craft this cajon in Europe from 100% Baltic birch wood, which also used in high-end drum sets for players serious about sound; made with NO cheap, glued-on, plasticky laminates that only look like wood
  • HOW IT WORKS: the cajon is equipped with two sets of fixed coiled steel snare wires for a crisp sound; two pickups are placed on the snare zones and the other on the bass area to produce the most natural tone (you can play it without using the pickups)
  • OF NOTE: the pickups don't require batteries to work; just plug into an amp or PA with a quarter-inch cable, adjust the dials, and start playing (cable not included)
  • ZOOM IN: there are two dials and two quarter-inch jacks; VOLUME: set your levels, TONE: adjust for more bass or snare, OUTPUT: send your signal to an amp or PA, LINK: join other Meinl Percussion passive pickup instruments through the cajon's system
  • BY THE NUMBERS: the Meinl Pickup Snarecraft Cajon measures 11 3/4" W x 19" H x 11 3/4" D and weighs 9 lbs; its full size has enough volume for any room, and it's made to last with a solid frame that supports adults and children
  • THE BIG PICTURE: Meinl is a family-owned musical instrument manufacturer and brand established 1951 in Germany; our expert German designers have deep relationships with our builders to ensure you're delivered the absolute finest quality

When extra amplification is needed, dial-up your cajon volume and mix your tone with the Meinl pickup cajons. Available from the Snarecraft and Woodcraft Professional lines, these cajons are equipped with passive Piezo pickups for both snare and bass tone. Each cajon comes with a volume and tone knob so you can find your perfect mix. A quarter-inch cable jack allows you to send your signal through any amp or PA system (cables not included). Additionally, this cajon is equipped with a quarter-inch “link” jack where you can link other Meinl passive pickup instruments through this cajon's system and control their output with the cajon's dials. This eliminates the need for additional amps or outputs to minimize your setup. Ideal for any plugged-in outdoor show, large venue or intimate acoustic coffee house set, the Meinl Pickup Cajon is extraordinarily versatile for any setting. Constructed in Europe with a Baltic birch wood frontplate and black Baltic birch body that produces a punchy, warm sound with depth and sensitivity. Internal fixed sets of snare wires (the same type found on snare drums) are fitted against the playing surface to produce a snare effect that complements the cajon’s natural bass notes. Great for finger rolls, deep back beats or brush patterns. This cajon measures 11 ¾” W x 19 ¾” H x 11 ¾” D.

I purchased the smaller version for my husband but he yes 6 ft and it was too short for him to sit on. So I purchased this taller box and it’s perfect. He loves the quality material as well as the sound. He plays it with our church band and everyone things it sounds great.

This is my first Cajon and all I can say is, WOW!I love the bass and the snare sounds. The frontplate is smooth and punchy. It arrived just in time and in good shape. it's light and I'm also using the ChromaCast Cajon bag. The amplification is available and it works great. I'm plugging it to my portable speaker (Block Rocker) using 1/4 inch cable and it works like magic. It's loud!!!It's a beauty and I can't wait to get my first gig. Very much recommended.I hope this helps.

I've played several cajons and own two others. Needed one w/ pickups for louder, amplified gigs. I first tried the Artisan series from same manufacture and returned it (see separate review). When amplified, the extra two pickups for the snares make a big difference (vs the Artisan model which inexplicably has just has one pick up for the whole cajon). Bright snare sound and finger rolls really come through especially when turning the Tone knob up.When un-amplified it also sounds balanced and natural so I will be using this for all variety of gigs. Also this cajon is "forgiving" in that you do not need precise location and technique to get both great bass and snare tones. The output signal signal strength from the pickups is not quite "line" level. It is an "instrument" level signal (yes, there is such a thing). With the cajon's output knob cranked to 10 and plugged into a line level input on a mixer it is still not as loud as line-level. Padding turned off, of course. So if you are going to be doing live mixes with other gear (mics, guitars, etc.) you will need a channel on your mixer with adjustable gain. [Update 8/2024- Getting good bass sound in the mix is tricky. I've found I need to turn the tone down to 2 and then boost the bass as high as it will go on my mixing board. Other reviewers here don't seem to have this problem so maybe the bass pickup is not working on mine].

I have gotten 3 different cajons. All minel cajons . I like them all but I especially love this one because I can plug it in to our amp system which you can see behind a picture. It lets me be hard with the band that I’m playing with it does really sound good I’m very happy with it and I’m glad I made this choice. If you do plan a combo like this you would want that power so you can be heard and it also makes the band sound wonderful. So take it from me you cannot go wrong with this Cajon

Good product except if I turn up max tone, I get distortion. I am very pleased with the many sounds I can get from this drum.

Brilliant German quality of build. Super snappy snares top front corners. Booming bass centre front downwards. I would suggest you add a foot tambourine to give more range. I think I will try to add TOM- TOMS to both sides although the electronics and controller is on right top, awkward for lefties like myself. Some makers offer LEFT HANDED versions.
