I’ve sadly done the whole “work harder not smarter†when it came to making a DIY rain barrel. I finally stumbled upon these, slapped my forehead for being an idiot, and promptly ordered them. They fit the trash can perfectly and the mesh is so fine that no trash will be able to get thru. Win win! Now I just gotta finish installing the spigot. 😂

These work great for keeping mosquitos out of my rain barrels. Easy to install. The only thing I changed was to cut a hole for the downspout that feeds into the rain barrel. The mesh had not allowed tons of minute debris to go into the barrel but had caused it to back up in the downspout. I just cut a small hole large enough for downspoout to go through.

So far these meet my requirements for keeping debris out of my water containers. They are cheap and easy to use

I was looking for something to prevent mosquitos nesting in water barrels that I keep in my yard to collect rain water. This seems perfect solution. Size is adjustable with the built in string. It also keeps water free of leaves. twigs and other debris. Easy to flip over when you need to use the water. Looks nice.

They will cover a barrel and keep leaves out, but they fit so loosely they hang down in the barrel leaving plenty of water for mosquitoes. The draw string helps keep them on, but won't draw the screens tight across the top. I had to put bungee cords around the barrel in order to keep them tight.

Barrel covers are very sturdy. Appear to be made to last. How I quickly solved the loose fit problem is simple. Once the cover is secure and taut at top and locked, wrap the excess pull string around the spigot once, (around 1 1/2 times). Tie a slip knot. Repeat once. Then, take the end and weave it through the last knot and tug gently. If too tight with the end tug it’ll be challenging to remove when storing barrels for winter or seasonally. The two slip knots should be adequate. But the last thread still needs woven and pulled lightly just in case the wind tries to take a hold and rip these screens off.An alternative method is bungie strap. Once attached and snug up top secure with a bungy strap. Use a piece of cardboard or wood to wrap the long string neatly so it doesn’t tangle. I’d suggest securing the spooled up string in a sandwich bag shut all the way so the string will be hosed or it’ll blow around.I wouldn’t suggest cutting it to fit. If you do you’ll figure out the issues with this choice.Hope these ideas are helpful to your rain barrels using these affordable cover solutions.I’m the Beautification Committee chair who facilitated rehabbing a couple of community gardens. The Master Gardeners got us so much grant money we can’t keep up with the process. For now, this is the system we set up in one garden without water sourcing.I’m excited to have these covers and prevent bug nurseries 🪰🦟âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸ðŸ’¯

These are perfect for our rain barrels by our greenhouse. They have to be pulled down on the sides of the barrels but are ideal to prevent mosquitos from laying eggs in the water. If you are careful with them they will last more than 1 season.

Very flimsy mesh material. A strong gust of wind will likely blow it away. Drawstring doesn’t work well when tightening on barrel.

Utilisé pour récupérateur d'eau de pluie et empêche très bien les détritus des gouttières de rentrer dans la baril. Fait bien son travail!

Covers standard 45 gallon drum. Draw strings stay tight even though debris from the gutter accumulate. No holes so far. Perfect for our needs.
