We needed to replace the casters on an old desk chair for my wife which has a welded metal (5 caster) base. The base has â…†diameter sockets and used casters with 5/16†diameter swivels and some sort of non- metallic spacers, all of which were worn out and unavailable.Current new casters with standard 7/16†diameter swivels and skate-board wheels were used.So we needed to build adapters. This material was perfect. We cut the material easily to the correct length sleeves with a hack saw and mini reciprocating saw. Then trued the ends on a bench grinder. The new casters fit into the 11mm id of this material perfectly with their c rings after a slight chamfer was filed on the inside edge so the C ring could depress and we lubricated it (with a little silicone spray). We them made round flat shims out of a salvaged aluminum downspout to allow the 14mm od to exactly fit into the â…†sockets. A couple needed partial double layers. More silicone spray and small C clamp were used to press everything together. If new casters are needed again, the ones we installed can be easily tapped out since we didn’t have to use any epoxy or other adhesive. Everything was press-fit. Thanks to this vendor for selling this material at a reasonable price on Amazon and offering prime speed delivery times.
