I like the fact that this is .500" diameter. Because you can use it on larger diameters parts to find center and locations. While I mostly use an edge finder with a .200" diameter end, you can't use that on large diameter parts. This competes very well with the Starrett brand edge finders for quality.

Very crisp response, I get accuracy and repeat to the 0.0002 resolution of my Newall DRO. I have a couple of Starrett edge finders I have trusted for years, this is at least as good.

If you know anything about machining then you know Mitutoyo. The Japanese are very detailed oriented and I only buy Mitutoyo for my digital tools and for many other tools. I'm a 15 year career machinist and I just retired my 15 year old digital Mitutoyo calipers to my home garage just to refresh my work tools. All of that is to day I have been trusting the Japanese and this brand with my livelihood my entire career and they don't disappoint me. This edge finder is no exception, provided you don't wreck it yourself as can happen now and then, hence why I bought a new one.

Is as promised, Setup is very quick and easy especially when setting up existing bores on a universal milling machine, with a Digital Read Out (DRO).I have setup around 3 bores that required a set up tolerance of 0.001†+-0.0005†and verified these setups with a Starrett Test indicator and for me this has performed as expected, am happy with the purchase.

Checked with my mitutoyo digital 0-1 mic and it's 0.5000 dead on. Provides better part clearance than the common .200 version. Centers very smoothly and the end pops out very crisp when indicating an edge. I used this in my bridgport at work the next day for specific parts and it performed flawless. Quick shipping too. I like to reach and when you get to the break over it jumps in a very noticeable fashion. Somebody's got to make one with a ceramic end so that it's not susceptible to magnetism for those pesky magnetic parts that are magnetized and keep getting magnetized even after you try to demagnetize them for darn sakes.

Edge finders are simple, not much to them.This Mitutoyo works just fine.
