I purchased this switch to use as a closet door contact to turn the closet light on and off. Most roller ball or wheel plunger switches are intended for alarm systems and are normally open (the circuit is closed when the plunger is depressed). This switch is one of the few that operates as a normally closed switch (the circuit is closed when the plunger is out (when the door is opened). This switch is also one of the shortest in overall length so it would have been useful for shallow hole installations.Unfortunately, the switch is very poorly built. First the ball must be FULLY depressed to open the circuit. If the ball stands proud of the flange even by a few thousandths of an inch, the contacts will not open. This means that if there is even a hairline gap between your door and the door jamb the switch will remain on, the circuit will never open and your lights will stay on all the time.Second, the switch completely failed after about 25 cycles. The ball simply became stuck in the housing and would not pop back out. The internal switch mechanism uses friction spring contacts to push the ball back out. The friction contacts wear very quickly and lose their springiness.Basically this is junk. Save your money.
