I tried to replace the thermostat on my 2012 Chevy Malibu and found it is spring compression fitted in place in the housing. Most people's thumbs won't have enough strength to compress the thermostat so I can't get the old one out. Also, what's the purpose of the cardboard tube that came with the thermostat? I haven't been able to find a video on YouTube for the 3.6 liter engine V6 thermostat change and I would prefer to do my own repairs.

What i did not like is that the product was too big for my 2017 Gmc Acadia thermostat but it seems to be a problem at Auto Zone as well (too big). So I returned it i have no idea what size thermostat will fit.
