I've had this grinder for about a month, and I'm impressed. The last time I ground my own coffee was about ten years ago. I had a blade-type grinder back then too, but it was the old design design, where only the lid came off. The blades and grinding-chamber were built into the motorized base. It was necessary to flip the thing upside-down to get the grounds into the lid/cup. Then, when I'd separate the lid from the base, some portion of grounds would always escape onto the counter. It was so messy and difficult to clean that it wasn't worth grinding my own coffee. This new design seems to work quite well. I have yet to make a mess with the coffee grounds. After grinding the beans, I twist the chamber to remove it from the motorized base. I flip up the lid and pour the grounds into my coffee maker. There is even a built-in component that sweeps the edges of the chamber to dislodge the grounds so I don't have to bang on it to get them out. To activate the sweep, I simply twist the container while pouring the grounds into my coffee maker. After all this, I twist the lid to remove it from the container and tap everything on the edge of my sink to release any lose remnants. All the pieces are clearly marked to make reassembly easy. I put the pieces back together and the grinder sits on my counter all nice & clean.Consistent grounds -The new design also makes it easy to have a good, consistent grind. The old model had an on/off mechanism - that was it. I never really knew how long to let the thing run. What if I were making 6-cups instead of 12-cups? What if I wanted strong coffee instead of weak coffee? What if I ground the beans too long and made coffee bean dust that clogged my filter and overflowed coffee-soup onto my counter? This new design solves the problem. With a push of a couple of buttons, I can specify how many cups of coffee I'm planning for and whether I want it weak or bold. I haven't compared the grind consistency to that of a burr grinder, but this little thing seems to do a fine job. My understanding is that burr-type grinders provide the best consistency of grounds, but they're more expensive and difficult to clean. I paid $20 for this little guy and it's easy to use and clean.Cleaning -The instructions say the grinding container and lid can be hand-washed or placed on the top rack of the dishwasher. I recommend hand-washing because I had a poor experience with the dishwasher. The container has an inner stainless-steel cup where the beans are ground. Outside of this cup is a clear-plastic housing. When the dishwasher removes food particles from the other dishes, some of the particles become lodged between these two grinder components. To get the food residue out of my grinder container I had to completely disassemble it - rinsing wouldn't get them out. On a positive note, I can say that the grinder container was easily disassembled and reassembled with a #1 Phillips screwdriver. It also gave me an opportunity to evaluate the engineering, manufacturing and assembly of this particular part of the grinder. Overall, I think this grinder is a very good deal for $20.Only complaint -If there were one thing I would improve, it would be the on/off switch. The manufacturing and assembly tolerances are pretty good for a $20 grinder. However, a slight difference in tolerances can make a person have to push really hard on the switch to turn on the grinder. In my opinion, the design should have added millimeter on the plunger that activates the switch.

This is a very simple and easy-to-use coffee grinder! While the grind is nowhere near that of a burr mill grinder, it does its job. I use a 4-cup machine and I find that 2 scoops of beans on the 4-cup setting and at a medium coarseness works very well. I've worked in the coffee business and managed coffee shops, so I've had my hands on everything from $10,000 burr mills to $20 common retailer models. Some of the gripes I've read on here were:- Settings- Maintenance & CleaningSettings: This grinder has 3 buttons: brewing size, coarseness, and grinding. The reviews on here showed frustration for it not saving the setting you prefer but how frustrating is that really? It defaults to 6-cup at a medium grind, and I have to cycle through to 4-cup. It takes maybe a second to tap the button 3 times. Done. Press the top grind button and hold until the machine automatically turns off. Easy. You do more work starting your car or making cereal. For those who buy beans at coffee shops: the "fine" setting spits out a #3-4 grind which is good enough for most espresso and moka pots, the "medium" does a decent #7 for drip, and "coarse" provides a good #13-14 coarseness good enough for a press.Maintenance & Cleaning: All coffee grinders get build-up. All of them. Coffee beans have oils and debris that stick together; the fresh arabica beans are the WORST offenders but make such a GREAT cup. This is why coffee shops devote about a half-hour of dedicated cleaning and disassembling of their burr mills. Every. Single. Day. It's a lot of work, but you'll break the machines if you don't do it. With this grinder, there are a few tricks:- You will have build-up if you pour from the top flip-lid. A hack is to twist the top as if you were removing the lid. There are plastic scrapers on the inside that will dislodge almost all of the build-up. Lock the lid back in place and pour into basket or press.- Once a week I'll take about a coffee scoop or two of rice and run that through. Toss it and then take a pastry/basting brush and get the dust out. Oil build-up can be wiped with a clean, dry coffee filter. Not joking, those things suck up oil and cost nothing, less than a penny each. We used those in the industry, albeit much larger ones, to clean oils out and off of machines and coffee mills since detergent cleansers cannot be used due to health code and quality reasons ("Mmm! Soapy, chemical-tasting coffee!")Also, allow the grinder to cool-off between cycles. I mean, you should be grinding as needed but I can understand why people would want to grind a pound at once for convenience, but that coffee will be stale in a matter of days (5-7 days) and the oils start to turn rancid. Freezing is okay, but only gives you a week extra before it tastes freezer-burnt. A busted grinder and bad coffee is not fun so just use this grinder daily. Use a coffee scoop: 1-scoop of whole beans for 2 cups of brewed coffee. Don't overload the grinder or you'll burn it out.I've been using this consistently, almost daily, for the last couple months with no issues. The reviews had me worried but I quickly realized that people may not be caring for their grinder the way it should be cared for. Fresh coffee at home is almost ceremonial, so caring for your grinder is essential and you'll appreciate your coffee so much more.

For what it is, its a cheap electric blade grinder, so you are not going to get very great grind size consistency. Its great if you just need a quick, cheap, and very compact electric grinder. I believe the size setting adjusts the speed of the blade, so it would change how quickly it pulverizes the beans.I grind for a few seconds, shake the container to mix up the grinds, then grind for a few more seconds. I repeat till I get the consistency I want. I tried just pushing down and letting the internal timer go till it considers itself done, that was a mistake, since its like using a blender with just a small single blade at the bottom, you are going to get very inconsistent grinds if you do that. When I tried that, I had a mix of decently sized grinds and large chunks of beans that were barely touched by the blade. You have to actively mix between grinding bursts to get a somewhat consistent grind. If you arent expecting amazing things from this cheap grinder, I think you will be more than satisfied. It does the job more than adequately, though it is a far cry from what you can get for a much higher price tag.

We used one of these at a holiday house we rented, and liked it so much we had to have one. It grinds coffee perfectly, let's you choose the amount and fineness, no need to time it or think hard during those difficult morning hours. Pretty easy to clean...the only part that gets 'dirty' can go in the dishwasher. Great for the money. It's a little noisy...the only criticism I can think of.
