I purchased the Mr. Heater Hunting Buddy to replace a Portable Buddy version that would no longer light. Yes, it is more powerful, although quite frankly, the form factor of the Portable Buddy is more streamlined. There is a lot of unused space in the Hunting Buddy, including the storage area. All of these are minor issues compared to the major plus of the Hunting version - that would be the electric ignition. That alone makes this heater a winner. No more clunking away and hoping that the piezo switch would start the pilot flame. It's simply faster, easier, and more elegant to start.I highly recommend the Hunting Buddy, if only for this one attribute. It's a game-changer.

I use this regularly and is the perfect size to help heat my house. Keeps me warm when I’m camping and keeps my shop warm when I’m working out there. Very easy to use and the safety shutoff works. Had to clean the pilot light orifice because it was getting too dirty to allow the pilot to stay on but other than that it works great.

Others have made the same comment about the oxygen sensor. I tried to use this heater in my new greenhouse and it utterly failed. The greenhouse isn't very tight yet the heater turns off after 2-4 hrs. It hasn't tipped over and it isn't out of fuel, so it must be the oxygen sensor. This heater should not be used inside, it doesn't work. I also bought a CO detector which hasn't recorded any CO, so it does burn clean. The heater is well made and probably works very well in a limited outdoor environment.

I got this Hunting Buddy to take the chill off the living room on cold mornings. The house is 3000 sq ft and they really rip me on natural gas use. So with the heater off all night and 30's outside, I see 55F in the living room. I have the Hunting Buddy on a 20 gallon propane tank with 12 foot hose and filter. By the time the coffee is brewed, the thermometer by the couch reads 63 degrees. I can feel the radiant heat from 10 feet away. Its comfortable. The 20 pound propane tank, hose and filter is the way to go. The tank lasts me 3+ weeks the way I use it. Propane is $4.50 a gallon here and $22 to fill the tank beats burning $12 worth of natural gas every day.The battery operated spark pilot ignitor is also a big plus. Just touch it and the pilot is lit.The only downside is that anything propane powered puts off a smell. With the Hunting Buddy, the stink-o wafts upstairs where a cracked window lets it out. It still beats a kerosene heater for smell and is less messy. The wood stove is too slow to operate and I leave the house and don't want it burning.Yes, I'm very happy with the Hunting Buddy and its a step above my 8000 BTU buddy in our camping stuff. It has been 100% reliable.

Almost too well. Have a two person blind and this will roast you out in a blizzard! I keep it on low and it runs a LONG time on a single tank. Spare tank holder is perfect as well. Super easy to use.

This "Hunting Buddy" heater does not work properly. My children are in scouting and the easy of use was the selling point. I received a heater that would not ignite. I wanted to return it immediately but no returns allowed and the only option is to contact customer service. I am very familiar with using this type of equipment and I was able to narrow the issue to the ignition. If I manually lite the heater it works just fine. I contacted customer service and we have been back and forth for about a month. Long story short, instead of getting a brand new heater that works, I received a heater that I have to work on. Yes, I was asked to pull out my screwdriver and dig into it to troubleshoot the problem. I can understand this being the case if I had purchased a used heater but I received no discount for having to fix the brand new heater that was sent to me. Had the description identified this product with potential problems and a very deep discount, I would have been prepared for the challenge. Customer service did finally say they would let me return the heater but you all know how much of a pain the return process is. I admit I don't want to have to go through the process of returning it. I just want a heater that works. My kids are in scouting and its cold. So I dug into the heater and found a slashed ignition wire. (This could possibly explain why the heater would not light at the push of a button.) I believe I found the issue and sent a picture of the wire to customer service. I am just waiting on customer service to send me a replacement for the defective part. It has been a week and I have not heard back from customer service. I hope I get a replacement for the defective part. How did this particular device get through quality control?Update: After a month of waiting for a replacement wire and a little back and forth with customer service, I decided to resolve the issue myself. In all fairness, customer service did offer to allow a return since a replacement wire could not be located. A replacement wire cost is less than $5. I am a common sense kind of person and the hastel of returning a product that works but needs a simple $5 part does not make sense to me. I was told that the ignition wire that needs to be replaced does not go out often and that they did not have a supply of them. Okay. If that is the case, I would image, I would have found it difficult to find the part online. Nope. I found it in less than 10 minutes. I ordered the part and replaced the wire with no issue. Now my heater works as it should. No Thanks to Buddy Heater customer service. Again, I should never have had to go to this extent for a brand new heater.

The heater belts out the heat, but a specification of the gas cylinder connection and the consumption at the various settings would assist with the choice.BCH
