This product is called a "live center" and is used to stabilize a rotating metal object in a machine lathe while it is being turned (cut) down, i.e. fashioned into a usable piece or part for other equipment. "Live" means that it rotates with the part being machined, instead of just creating friction by remaining stationary. The advantage of a live center is that there is no unwanted build-up of heat in the part being made. The fit and finish of this tool was quite good. #2 Morse taper is typically the size used on lathes up to 12" capacity, while #1 Morse taper is smaller, and #3 Morse taper is larger in size and weight.

This tool doesn’t have the traditional tab shape end found on most MT tools… it is just short enough to require me to tap it out after retracting to its fullest point… I have a SB9A latheso far after about 6 hours if use, it is holding up.. I did lube it up with spindle oil before and after use
