This is one of the best ice melts out there. Fast too! The only issue I had was with delivery. The bucket was broken so some of the product spilled out. Good value for the money.

So lets get the first thing out of the way: the 50gal bucket is rediculous with how they designed the top. Its almost impossible to open. It LOOKS like a normal 50gal lid, but what is happening is the center of this entire thing unscrews ... the sides stay in place. Like others here, I hacked, and pulled, and dropped and even thought about using a sawzaw. Complete by accident, I jammed a screwdriver into a chunk of the lid and torqued and the darn thing started to unscrew.FINALLY, on the second one, I realized there is a white, rubber, "gasket" inside under the lip. You leverage a flat screwdriver in, pull that white cord up, the just "unzip" the cord. It breaks the seal on the lid and the whole thing just unscrews.I guess in a way it keeps it completely water tight for long term storage. But WOW was that tough to figure out.As to how the product works, well its tricky. Just got through Winter Storm Blair. I used this to presalt my sidewalks. It appears to be a blend of old style salt melt and the newer white pellets (don't real the chemical). As a pre treat down before the snow, it worked AMAZING. It keeps all the snow on the ground from freezing by holding it above the freeze point even though the ground was very cold and frozen. Even after folks were walking and packing down snow all day, I honestly could have shoveled it right up.Now, after that? I put some down on the spots with some snow still in place and it barely melted it.So I went back over with those white pellets and within 15min all the remaining snow and patches were melted and gone.So we will see tomorrow are a night's freeze. I think the old fashion ice melt crystals will keep the water from freezing, but who knows.

This is my second order it works. There was enough left from our first snow that it took care of the second snow two days later without using more product.

This ice melter works fine once you can open the bucket. Once I pulled the plastic (wrap around) tab I thought the top would pull off readily. However, after repeated attempts with a screwdriver, marlin spike, and then a claw hammer the top would not budge. Finally I. perforated the (plastic) top striking it with a garden pick repeatedly. The bucket then became a 35 lb salt shaker which I emptied into another bucket. Don't worry about the top coming loose while you shake the container.....the top is on there to stay!I don't recommend this product unless you enjoy spending more time wrestling with the container (in the cold) than spreading the melter.

I was a bit nervous about how well this ice melt would work. We had a lot of think ice on the driveway and walkway and this worked great and I didn’t have to use a lot of the ice melt to get my driveway and walkway clear.

The plastic bucket the product was in was broken and open in the shipment box and subsequently all over my hallway floor.
