UPDATE!I figured out each package has FIVE hanks twisted together! If you separate the hanks and snip the tiny knot keeping each one together, it prevents the tangling! It still snags easily, but that's just the nature of silk.I hope this product and seller stick around, I WANT to buy more now and in the future.Ok, this silk embroidery floss is absolutely beautiful, but is has a number of drawbacks.Frist, Pros:- Beautiful, rich color.- Lovely sheen.- Very pretty, definitely looks-like-silk finished products.Cons:- EXTREMELY thin, but to be expected with silk. I had to use 4 strands to get close to the regular 2-strand cotton counterpart.- The wispy floss catches, snags, and tangles on EVERYTHING including dry skin you didn't know you had, itself, other stitches, basically everything, etc.- After working with the floss for over an hour or so, whatever is used to finish the dyeing process (or the dye itself) makes your hands feel a bit "icky" and requires a wash, but that just ensures you get up and walk around every once in while. Also, while manually getting the silk onto the bobbin, there was a very minute bit of dye transference onto my fingers because I was handling and working it so long. No big deal, just expect some color on your fingers that comes off quickly with a wash or two.- Trying to wind it onto a bobbin can takes HOURS! I thought other reviewers were just being persnickety and impatient when they wrote about the floss tangling. They are NOT wrong! There are no "ends" because they tied them together (creating a few giant, "endless" loops), but it is easy to find the knotted ends (there are a couple). Trying to gently pull the strand free without tangling or snagging the skein is next to impossible! I tried very hard to keep the original "O" shape of the skein after I untwisted it, but ONE little distraction and I set the whole thing down on top of itself and had no idea where my "O" went. That's when the real headache/ tangles started. I spent the better part of an entire Sunday getting ONE black skein onto a bobbin. Granted, I don't regret that, just know the skeins from this seller require a time commitment some buyers may not have or being willing to give up.Overall, I bought quite a few lots from this seller, but I do cringe on the inside thinking about what the next year of Sundays hold for me and my mulberry silk skeins. Will I buy again? You bet! But I will tell potential buyers to be weary because of the work involved. If you have the time and patience, it's worth it!

I have worked with 100% mulberry silk threads and yarns from Japan, so I thought I'd give this one from China a try -- especially since I have seen stunning pictures of Chinese embroidery. Also, the pictures of the skeins looked so nice. However, this is the most frustrating, horrible silk thread I ever worked with. I think I passed the return deadline, and anyway, I had to undo a skein in trying out this nightmare. Yuk!

If I didn’t already own a yarn swift it would have been very difficult to use. To make it work untwist and carefully open until you have a large loop, slip over a retracted swift and then, while holding in place, open the swift like you would an umbrella. You will then notice the loop is actually made of 5 smaller groups. Untie the slip knot for the top or bottom group and wind onto your bobbin. In the picture you will see 3 groups, I had already wound 2 of the 5.The colors are vibrant and have a beautiful sheen. I have wound 3 hanks with no trouble, no breakage or weak spots. It is considerably thinner than the cotton I normally use- but I think doubling it will work perfectly on 13.

I'd like to try my hand at silk thread painting, an advanced embroidery technique, so I ordered 8 colors of this silk thread packaged in loose skeins. Every colors is absolutely stunning. But, I use my hands for a lot, including gardening, so the silk thread catches on my skin terribly, even though my hands appear smooth to the naked eye.I'm returning all of the colors, but I'm reordering nearly all of them (1 is out of stock) wound onto wooden spools from the same brand. Looking at the listing, the wound spools appear to be wound with the same exact thread in the same exact colors (as indicated by the numbers) as the loose skeins. It's more economical to order the skeins than the pre-wound spools, but to me it's worth the difference not to spend my time to deal with such terrible tangling of the loose skeins. Plus, the skeins will need to be wound onto something anyway, so I decided to save myself a lot of time. At 67 and trying a new craft, I don't really have time to waste.

I give this zero stars. This is not yarn. It is very weak, wanna be embroidery thread. It is extremely disappointing and nothing like the picture show. I opened the package and saw the product and immediately sent it back. Bought another set at the same time and didn't bother to open the other one because I saw how disappointing this one was. I would NOT recommend buying this at all.

I wanted to complete a project with this silk floss before writing this review to ensure it was fair and accurate. I am very impressed at the care the seller takes in the packaging of each skein. The colors are vibrant and the quality is superb. I am on my 14th set of purchasing this floss, I will continue to purchase more colors.I found the best way to store the floss is to carefully unravel the skein, which is separated into 5 individual pieces. I gently align all 5 knots and snip through all pieces, I use acrylic floss drops and feed one end of the cut skein through and then braid the full skein, this ensures there is no tangling at all, when needed, I carefully at the floss drop top gently pull a strand of floss out, this won't disrupt the braided skein at all. Since I work intricate with colors, I again separate the one strand into 2, which allows me to blend the floss perfectly with all colors that I desire creating a very realistic embroidery. You won't be disappointed with this floss. The seller is very quick to respond with any questions asked and I am anxiously waiting the seller to open the full spectrum of their colors to be able to purchase them individually which will be wonderful for when I need replacement on colors that I need replenished without having to buy a full new color set.
