UPDATE:.I just bought the 67mm version of this filter. A repeat buy says it all!.Original Review:.I’ve wanted to use an ND filter to achieve some long shutter, waterfall effects and motion blur of clouds in landscapes on my Lumix FZ300 bridge camera. I recently bought the K&F Concept 52mm MC UV Protection Filter with 28 Multi-Layer Coatings HD/Hydrophobic/Scratch Resistant Ultra-Slim UV Filter for 52mm camera Lens and it is a great filter. K&F Concept filters appear to have good reviews and are priced competitively for the hobby photographer, but only the ND2-32 has min and max stops and doesn’t suffer from the dreaded X pattern and I need a stronger variable ND filter than ND32. I took a chance on this NEEWER 52mm Variable ND Filter ND8-ND128 Camera Lens Filter (3-7 Stop) No X Cross Neutral Density Ultra-Slim HD Filter with 30 Multi-Layer Nano Coatings Waterproof. It has physical min and max stops and the reviews are positive..The NEEWER 52mm filter comes in a large, square plastic case. A very large, common, similarly-sized, but round case is used by K&F for all filter sizes too. They are all too bulky to carry in your camera bag for just these small filters, especially if you have several. I yearn for the past; small, round filter-specific cases! The filter itself is manufactured to a very high-quality standard. It threaded on first time, and smoothly, to the K&F UV filter, which I use purely as protection for the camera lens. There are stops at both minimum and maximum ND positions and the adjustment is snug and smooth. The filter also screws off easily with no sticking. The filter rim is easy to grip and the physical rotation stops help with loosening and tightening the filter..I usually test filters under overcast, constant-light conditions. However, I had sun and dark passing clouds today. So, I did my testing indoors under a controlled light. I test without the filter and then with the filter, sampling images at the extreme ND settings until I get the same exposure with all other settings the same. I then use my exposure app to check the number of stops the filter achieved. I was impressed with this NEWEER filter. It is indeed an ND8 to ND128, maybe a little more than 128. The variability is smooth and linear as the filter is rotated. I’ve tested others that are not linear at all. This filter does what it says it does! 😊I couldn’t see if there was a color shift indoors or if there was uneven gradation across the image with this filter. So, I took some sky photos when the sun was not behind clouds.I could not detect a color shift with the filter on this sunny day. This shift is often seen with filters in this price range, with a magenta or yellow tint. However, when I did get an overcast day and retested, a yellow tint is clearly noticeable when comparing the white garage door shots under the same lighting and camera parameters, simply with and without the filter (at ND8) fitted. No problem with photo post-processing but video will be more problematic. There was a small amount of uneven gradation with the wide angle zoom setting and ND128. However, that reduced/disappeared at longer focal lengths or at lower f-stop settings. The clarity and detail of the image was not noticeably affected by adding the ND filter. No X-pattern at all 😊 though stacked on the UV filter at 25mm focal length, I get some vignetting on my FZ300. My sensor must be offset as the dark corners are only in the left corners. The darker shading was also noticeable only on the left side. So, this may just be my camera. A 30mm focal length eliminated the vignetting with the UV filter and the ND filter both on the lens. Adding another filter or two behind the ND, like a polarizer or a fixed ND1000 will increase the vignette effect at longer focal lengths, which would need to be cropped out in post-processing or just zoomed in more when taking the shot.NOTE: You cannot stack another filter in front of this VND filter - no thread! Another filter has to go behind the ND.You also need a 55mm lens cap on the front of this filter, but my 52mm Lumix lens cap actually works. It's not a perfect fit, but it does sort of stay in place, until knocked! Get a 55mm cap..CONCLUSION:.I was hoping this filter would give me the correct f-stop adjustment without that awful X pattern. I am very pleased to see that it meets the stated specs, has minimal uneven shading at short focal lengths, and has manageable color shift, that I can see. I love the physical stops at min and max.My filter pack is now complete! This will be a really useful addition to my camera accessories, primarily for light control in extreme sunshine and for flowing water effects. At $50, this was a worthwhile purchase..HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

A very handy variable neutral density filter. I’ve always appreciated Neewer’s shelters. They are budget friendly but never seem to sacrifice image quality. You can say that about a lot of their products actually. But I own several dozen of their filters and also some of the other very expensive ones and they have always been able to perform as good or close to the ones that cost several times the amount of money. When is the biggest use with variable neutral density filters is that they operate using two layers of polarized glass. Then by changing the angle of the polarization you allow more or less lighting. Typically this will create artifacts of a crisscross variety in your photos. So far this filter has been free of any such artifacts and that’s a pretty amazing to me. My guess is they are using very very small polarizing lenticels. I don’t know. But the filter is not creating any artifacts in the images absolutely sharp and clear. The build quality of this filter is equal to any that I’ve ever seen. The turning ring is very smooth and there’s enough to get a grip on but it’s still surprisingly narrow so it doesn’t really interfere with your lens. It’s hardly thicker than a single stage filter. The precision machines threads are also smooth and it goes on without any issues whatsoever.I am definitely impressed that they’re able to produce a filter of this quality at this price. If you’re looking for a variable ND and you don’t have $400 to spend this is a very viable option.

I own a lot of Neewer products, including some of their filters and other photography accessories. This 77mm neutral density filter has a variable ND range, which can be useful when you are unsure of how much light you want to cut and don't want to bring a range of different ND strengths with you.It fits on the lens well. Doesn't feel too tight. I think that all ND filters create a subtle change in color tones, some more than others, but this one is really minimal. I don't think you will notice it at all. This will work well if you want to cut light for longer exposures (think moving water, clouds, etc.) or (and this is more commonly the case for me) if you are using ultra-fast lens for portraits (I have several f/1.2 lenses and even a manual focus f/0.95 lens). This lets me cut down the light so that I don't overexpose, which is needed because a fast aperture in bright light means that even at 1/8000 shutter speed, I could be taking in too much light. So I find this helpful.

This filter does it job, especially on those bright sunny days. I also really like this because you won't get the X mark when adjusting the CPL and VND to max/ min.
