So like all of the newer is filters this one is built incredibly well with crystal clear optical glass that cleanly darkened your image with no distortion or artifacts. This is part of their suite of magnetic filters and it includes the adapter so if you don’t have a magnetic ring this will provide one. This filter doesn’t quite have the range of their other variable neutral density filters as it only goes up to 32. But that is five stops of light reduction and if that’s all you need you can save a lot of money by buying this filter instead of the ones that go up to 1000 that cost quite a bit more money. It’s not a matter about this filter being less functional it’s a matter about just paying for what you need. Honestly most video shooters are not gonna need more than five stops so this is a very economical way to add this functionality to your camera without breaking the bank.It is pretty much the same quality as all of their other magnificent and affordable filters. And I definitely am glad that they offer a range of products so you can get exactly what you need without paying for what you don’t.I do have a ND 1000 filter but it’s for very specialized things like night photography and Astro photography. I don’t think I’ve ever used it on a video shoot.

I love the hard stops but many times it would accidentally fall if I am not very careful I wish there was some sort of little safety lock, but it still work great and good quality .

Workmanship of this item is great. I dropped it on my favorite walk-around lens with a 77mm filter size and it installed easily. The magnetic connector for the ND side of the lens is functional and positive. I can easily see that the ND works by looking at it through the viewfinder and seeing the f-stops adjust as it becomes darker. I cannot tell you visually how well it handles things or if there any aberrations. I will post a further review when I have a chance to play with this in the field. But initial impressions: This is a nice add to my photo bag.

Very high-quality neutral density filter. I will update this with photos I take with and without it, after a little bit of time. It goes on easily and really helps with your photos during those bright/sunny days, or when you want to have the shutter open longer so as to create an effect with timed exposure. This comes protected and encased in a box with a lens cleaning cloth.

Having a magnetic VND Filter is a godsend for anyone trying to capture things in the moment. I can never get step up rings and adapters to come off the camera without a good amount of effort. The Magnetic adapter makes installing and removing the filter slick and easy. However, I wouldn't go swinging your camera around with reckless abandon as I don't think the magnets will keep up. The filter itself has no cross hatching to speak when adjusting.

I have been involved in photography for over 60 years—yes, I am that old—and have always used a protective lens cap on all my camera's lenses. To that end,. I had ordered the corresponding magnetic lens cap for the Newer variable ND filter, and that's where the biggest problem had emerged. While the lens cap fits securely on the outer rim of the filter, I could not find a means of removing the cap without having the filter dislodge from the lens attachment. Fortunately, I'd discovered this issue in the studio before venturing out into the field, where it would have been a major headache. Then the second issue became apparent, the filter can be easily dislodged from the lens by a simple swipe of the hand, also not good. The overall performance of the filter is good, with limited color cast and no significant influence on IQ, and for this reason I would consider a non-magnetic version if available.

This is a Variable ND filter with with really good optics ranging from 2-5 stops and everywhere in between. You basically can control the flow of light into the camera like a water valve. There are markings on the filter so you know exactly where each stop is otherwise you could do it by feel depending on your usage. The magnetic feature allows you to quickly remove the filter and If you keep the mounting ring on the camera full time you can easily quickly install the filter. There's one thing about this filter that I'm torn about. The mount ring is 77 mm and the filter actually flares out to about 87mm. This flaring actually makes it easier to pull the filter off the camera quickly when you don't need it but it basically prevents you from using a hood on your lens. So I kinda like it but I don't at the same time. I think if I had to choose I would get one without that flaring so I could use a hood since a key time I would use this would be in bright lighting situations.

I've been really loving Neewer's lens filters, including this magnetic filter. My camera, the Lumix FZ1000M2 uses 62Â mm filters, but since I have the Neewer magnetic step up kit, I'm able to use this 77Â mm filter no problem.Unlike the ND filters that come in the 5-in-1 magnetic set, this one offers an adjustable range from ND2 to ND32, which can save space in a camera bag, but also takes the hassle out of guessing which filter to use.The quality of this filter is excellent, and Neewer has done an excellent job with their entire filter line.My only complaint, which extends to all the magnetic filters, is that you can't fix a lens cap to it.At the time of this review, this filter is $76.99 less a $10 coupon. This is actually quite a reasonable price for a magnetic, variable ND filter.
