I just got this indicator for use on my desktop CNC and the magnetic arm’s base seems to hold quite well on a bit of 1/8†steel plate exposed on the back of this mostly aluminum head, as shown. Only half of the base is in contact with the plate but it seems rigid enough for my purposes. The arm felt very sold when stuck to a 1-2-3 block.

so I have a dial indicator and I needed a mag base an arm and this seemed like an opportunity to try out a digital indicator and get the mag base and arm I was after. Unfortunately the mag base from the arm is so weak I cannot recommend its use. The digital indicator has a really smooth action and it was highly repeatable in testing. The display is large enough and clear to easily read even from an obscure angle. The biggest issue with the mag base is that it is extremely weak. I almost think I have a faulty unit the magnet is so weak. I tried the switch in both the on and off position thinking ti may have been mis marked, but no its just extremely weak.

Keeps turning off, quickly, between cuts on the lathe/mill, and loses setting (which is stated). I need one the stays on for considerably longer, and doesn't lose its setting. I didn't expect it to toggle to off so quickly. So, if you need these functions, look elsewhere.

This indicator is fairly accurate but outside of that, it is poorly made. The magnetic base is tiny and the plastic parts are very cheap. The case is even worse. I can't see any real use for this given how poorly made the components are and would just as soon a spend the money on something that will not almost certainly fail during first use.

I don't normally do reviews, but I will for this item . It arrived well packaged no damage. I think the quality is first class very well made , the digital dial is excellent very easy to read . I've pulled the rod a few times & it's always went back to zero. I'm going to use it on a z-axis of a milling machine I've made , I wanted to keep the machine manual , so I need to know how much I'm dropping down the z-axis or I'm going to be breaking cutters . So this new dial will be invaluable for that . So yes a very good purchase
