These lead holders are well-made and function as you would expect. They feel solid and comfortable, and the price was amazingly low. Since I am new to lead holders, the variety and amount of extra lead was helpful. I was able to try different options and find what works best for me.I have been surprised and pleased by how nice it is to write and draw with the lead holders. I've been using .5mm mechanical pencils for decades, and I'm sure glad I tried the 2mm lead holders, they work better than the .5mm lead in some cases. I won't need the extra erasers because I use separate Pentel eraser pens, and I won't need the sharpeners because I opted to purchase a Staedtler 502 lead pointer.

This is my son's favorite writing tool. And apparently, it's also a classmate's because I've had to order him another set since one of his classmates permanently "borrowed" his without asking him. Thankfully, it's also not expensive so replacing it was easy. I was more annoyed that someone stole it! But again, my son and I can't blame them: it's a great mechanical pencil.

Pencil is weighted nicely and very easy to manipulate. I use it for drawing and I find the graphite easy to switch out and the pencil feels good in the hand.

First thing to know... these are drawing, layout and general writing pencils. What they are not are precision, .5mm drafting pencils. If you have need of a .5mm mechanical pencil, this is not your set. If you are looking for a decently made 2-pencil set with more lead than anyone could possibly use, look no further. They work well in my wood shop for general pencil work. However, no matter how well you sharpen them they will not work with layout rulers that require a .5mm lead to fit into a .5mm hole. As long as you know what you're ordering, you'll be very happy. They come with various lead in varying harnesses along with red and blue leads. The red and blue leads are soft and act like stiff crayons so don't get heavy handed with them or they will break off. Other than that, there's little not to like.

TLDR: You get a lot of functional stuff for the price, so the value is great. However, the quality is just workable. It won't keep you from sketching/writing amazing stuff, but it's just not good quality. If you need years worth of lead, and your budget is tight, you won't regret getting this kit. However, if you can spend about 50% more you can get much better quality that will likely outlast these by a lot, and enough lead to last most of us months of active sketching.I almost said, "you get what you pay for," but you honestly get a little more than you pay for here.I'm sending mine back, but only because I prefer to pay a little more for slightly better quality. These are completely useable. The lead was held securely in the ones that I got and my sketching was indistinguishable from what I did with my Staedtler pencil. The lead that is included is surprisingly decent. I assumed, with the amount of lead that is included, that it would be terrible quality, that it would be in pieces when I received it, and that it would break easily. None of those things are true. I opened one container of each lead grade to test them and I didn't find any broken lead. I compared the 2H (what I generally sketch with) directly to my Staedtler 2H, and the difference was nearly indistinguishable. The NicPro lead was a touch harder to smear. That could be good if you don't blend, or it could mean it's ever so slightly harder to blend. Where it fell a little short was line consistency. You have to really be paying attention to see it (I mean REALLY looking), but there are tiny tiny little "scratches" within the lines sometimes, as if there are small hard-spots in the lead that draw darker. If you do anything other than a single stroke line, you will never find them. I just want to illustrate how close the lead actually was to Staedtler, which, admittedly isn't the best lead for sketching. The erasers, if you care, are actually good. Erasers don't get much better than good. In my opinion they are either trash or good, and these are good.I didn't try the sharpeners, but I suspect they would be "fine" for a while and then thrown away. Now for the lead holders. They're ok. That's honestly a good description of them. I can't speak to how long they will hold up, but I would expect they wouldn't last long, just based on how they feel. They are going to be inconsistent quality from one order to another. They also just don't feel good. One of my lead holders' lead designator spins very freely, so there's no way it would stay when I put it, and the others' clutch button is clunky/scratchy feeling and sometimes I have to shake it to get the lead to drop.I recommend moving up to a couple of decent mid-tear lead holders for just a few more dollars, and getting much less lead, but still generally enough to last most of us a good bit, for just a few more dollars.

The pencils are excellent, well made, nice to hold and use, and give the Staedtler 780 a run for the money but the Staedtler has the edge (as they should at several times the price). The leads that came with this set (10 packs of different grades!) are great and come in very nice containers. I can't believe the price and am very pleased with this purchase.
