The Nikon EM is a beginner's level, interchangeable lens, 35 mm film, single lens reflex (SLR) camera. It was manufactured by Nippon Kogaku K. K. (today Nikon Corporation) in Japan from 1979 to 1982 (available new from dealer stock until circa 1984). The camera was designed for and marketed to the growing market of new photographers then entering the SLR buyer's market.[1] The EM uses a Seiko MFC-E focal plane shutter with a speed range of 1 to 1/1000 second plus Bulb and flash X-sync of 1/90 second. It is 86 mm (3.4 in) high, 135 mm (5.3 in) wide, 54 mm (2.1 in) deep and weighed 460 grams (16 oz). Unlike most Nikons of the time, it was available only in black. The EM has no full manual exposure mode capability, but instead was intended to be used by inexperienced photographers who could not easily master the intricacies of shutter speeds and f-stops. Fully operational powered by two LR44 batteries and it utilizes Nikon AI lenses system "Nikon F Mount"

To be honest, I didn’t really know what to expect when I purchased the camera, since this was my first film camera purchase. But it didn’t disappoint! The camera came in mint condition, and I was impressed by the attached original user manual. (It definitely comes handy)And I also appreciated the two cell batteries it came with.Overall, very positive experience here.

Camera came in terrible condition. There was mold in the viewfinder. The lever to load in film doesn’t work and the back pops open every time you try and take a picture exposing your film so that means any picture you took with the back popping out there will be no photo. Extremely disappointed had such high hopes.

This is a very cool Nikon SLR and perfect for the beginner to film photography as the exposure mode is automatic. The nice write up for the camera neglects to mention the original marketing campaign for this camera was that it was a simplified 35mm SLR in a compact body that was designed for the smaller hands of a woman. Yes, this was the "Lady Nikon" from the early 80s. Not sure that marketing campaign would fly today, but I do know this is a great little camera. I frequently shot a friend's back in the day. If the CLA was done properly, the asking price seems pretty reasonable too.
