I am thrilled with this purchase. Until now I've been pitting cherries with a little hand pitter and/or a knife. Very time-consuming, not to mention the hand pitter wore my fingers raw and still missed about half of the pits. This Norpro pitter is a charm. It was easy to assemble and even easier to use. I used it for large cherries. It worked great. I'm picky about making sure the pits are gone because I freeze my cherries to use in smoothies. Because of that, I did guide each cherry into position to make sure it didn't miss any pits. Without doing that, it was about 90% successful. Even with my attention to detail, the pitting process was fast and easy. The cherries slide into position. A push of the plunger shoots the pit into the cup. The cherry rolls out the back into your waiting bowl. The cup holds the pits from about 3 pounds of cherries before needing to be emptied. I lost very little of the cherry meat to the cup. The suction base holds exceptionally well. Clean up is SO easy. I know others mentioned about stuck cherries, but I had no problem with that, even with very large cherries. I also had no problem with spray from the cherries. The cherries were juicy, but the design of this pitter keeps that fairly contained. Overall, quite pleased.

I had a standard cherry/olive pitter, and pitting a pound of cherries to make a clafoutis was very labor intensive and time consuming, and the tool didn't always pit the cherries correctly and made a mess. I was a little dubious that this would do much better, but to my great surprise it does! While it's not fully automatic and requires some attention in feeding the cherries and making sure each one is in place before pushing the plunger down, and that it gets properly released and falls into the bowl when releasing the plunger, it's about as close as you're ever going to get at that price. My first batch of 1 lb contained only three pits, and they were very easy to find and remove. Even better, it took no time at all to process. The pits are collected into the clear container and the pitted cherries fall down a chute to a bowl or plate you supply. The base has a very powerful suction cup activated with a lever. Once set, the pitter won't move from your counter. The hopper holds about one bowl. The pitter comes only partly assembled: you have to put together the rubber holder (a spare is provided), plunger, handle and spring -- that's easy once you figure out why: push the plunger up from the bottom into its channel, then put the spring on the other side and finish by screwing on the handle. The plunger should be in the high position when not in use. Finally, slide in the rubber holder into its slot. The whole pound needed for my clafoutis took only a few minutes, and it was quick and easy. If you have the space for it and need to pit large amounts of cherries or olives, this is a perfect tool at a very reasonable price. Highly recommended.

I am so glad to finally have my hands on a cherry pitter! I've used this one quite a bit and so far, I'm mostly pleased. The pitter suctions nicely to granite, so it is secure when in use. The tray doesn't feed automatically at all times as implied by the description, but this is a minor annoyance. The opening is generous in size and even larger cherries fit just fine (sometimes with a bit of help as they don't always fall through easily). Occasionally, cherries will get stuck on the plunger, but they usually fall off when it is pushed down again. Also, about 10-15% of the cherries (I didn't really count or do the math, this is a rough estimate) maintain their pits, so I have to make a point to check every single one for pits after they've gone through. Still beats cutting them and removing pits by hand and having permanently cherry stained fingers during cherry season. At times I have worried about the plastic construction of the neck of the pitter, as it has swayed a bit when my kids (5 & 7) get too rough trying their hand at it, or when I have pressed too hard trying to punch though a firm cherry. It hasn't bent out of shape, but I do worry about the plastic snapping or cracking. It rinses off fairly easily after use, but there are several areas where the cherry juice hides so you do need to be extra careful to get all the areas. I do wish it was dishwasher safe, but it is not.All in all, I'm glad to have it. It's great when running through large amounts of cherries (I typically buy large amounts when they are in season and freeze most for the rest of the year), cutting down the time I spend removing pits and saving me from stains on my fingers.

I was skeptical buying this but we had three 5 gallon buckets of cherries to pit & needed to get them processed. Had the model years ago that clamped to the edge of counter, it lasted one season & broke. This one attaches via suction cup on the bottom & is SO much better than the other model. We had no issues with performance of this, pitted cherries as expected and sure made our job easier. Would buy again.

I used this to pit cherries from my tree. This thing works amazingly!! Highly recommend especially if you have lots of cherries to pit. Super easy to set up, easy to rinse clean and very effective at quickly removing the pits from the cherries!

If you have more than a pound to pit and like your hands to work the next day, buy this. We typically pick 50+ pounds a year(in one day, so it's a now or never situation) and the misery of the 'scissors' type pitter still haunts me. The only drawer back is going so fast you forget to clean out the pit catcher. Also, if you have butcher block counter tops that are sealed, just wet the surface for better suction. Or better yet, get a large plastic cutting board to avoid the stains altogether. Keep rags nearby for the carnage, wear nitrile gloves, or don't. Stop debating, you'll thank me later.
