I have use most sizes repairing damaged threads or cleaning up old threads. The six flat sides allow me to use any standard wrench to turn the dies. No need for a special clamping tool to grab the dies. The flat sides allow the die to butt up against a wall allowing a better (deeper) cut into the old threads when in close quarters. The case they come in is fairly heavy duty and easy to open and lock back closed in order to keep from loosing the dies in my work van.I have never attempted to cut new threads on a virgin pipe. I don't think this is the tool to do that with.

These can't be used without a guide to start the thread. Wouldn't buy again
