Our 25 year old John Deere 826 snow blower had been in storage for 3 years and sat with bad gas in the carb, so ran rough when started this fall...even after cleaning. I priced carb kits, but they're nearly as expensive as this new carb and buying this saved a lot of time and aggravation. Also, OEM parts are ridiculously expensive and hard to find, but this Oregon piece fits the bill at a much lower cost.In the case of my JD 826, I needed to transfer the metal shroud mounting bracket and the choke bracket from my existing carb to this unit, which took just a few minutes. Other than that, it was a exact fit, direct replacement for OEM. Quality of this piece seems to be very high as well. After installation, I started the blower with one pull (first time ever) and it idled like new and ran as expected. It worked perfectly out of the box with no adjustments needed. If you're thinking about tearing down your old carb for a thorough cleaning or installing a carb kit, save your time and money and buy this new unit instead. Highly recommended!

I have an 8hp Snowblower that was having problems. It's about 8 years old. I've never used any type of gas stabilizer. It had sat with the same gas in the carb for about a year this time around, much like usual. This year, it wouldn't start. I used carb cleaner, etc, and did get the blower running, but it would stall, sputter, etc. I pulled the float bowl off to see if there was gas in the carb, and the fuel smelled like varnish. Not good. So, I put this new carb on, and the problems went away. In fact, I had never been able to use the pull rope to start the blower without a lot of cranking. It has an electric starter, and I'd always used that. When the blower would stall out in the driveway, I'd try starting with the puller, but would end up having to go back into the garage and use the electric starter. That was from day one of owning the machine. Now, with this new carb, it starts up 1 pull. In fact, I'm not using the electric starter anymore. Also, the engine isn't stalling anymore, and runs much better, smoother. I'm now going to use better methods of storing the machine. But, again, worse case, just replace the carb after another 8 years (lol). The only problem I had was removing the choke linkage from the old carb. The linkage was attached usign phillip screw head bolts, and the bolts were really tough to get out. I ended up having to use plyers to bite the heads and turn the screws. But that was about it. The carb was a perfect fit.

I put this on a HMSK80 motor on a Toro Power Shift 824 snow blower. The original carb had two air and fuel adjustment screws; one on the bottom of the bowl and one on the side of the carb. This new carb has non-adjustable screws. Maybe I should have not tried this unit on my engine. The carb itself looks like a nice unit. I bought it because it was such a good price and the last two carbs I had rebuilt should actually have been replaced because they were really worn out. The carb on this 8hp snow blower was not worn out but only suffered from old fuel contamination, but at the price of this replacement carb and the reviews and being gun shy from my last two rebuilds, I bought it to save time. It fit great and started right up. I had flushed the gas tank and fuel lines prior to installation. Unfortunately, after the initial start, the engine started to surged back and forth like crazy from the governor action. I removed the plastic cap on the side jet(which takes the place of the side adjusting screw) removed it and checked and cleaned the jet and engine running got a tad better. There was some junk in the jet orifice but who knows where it came from. Then I repositioned the governor linkage because I believe it may be positioned differently between the adjustable carbs and the non adjustable carb engines. Things are now running better but not perfect. This fellow on Youtube has some helpful tips via a few videos related to this type of snow blower; here are two: [...] [...] Check out his various videos related to the Tecumseh engine. In retrospect, I should have rebuilt the original carb. This new carb saved me no time with all the fussing I have done with it. Originally, I was concerned it may run too rich for my 8hp motor but others had had success with it. I don't know if it is running too rich or not. The carb is probably great for a direct replacement or if you don't mind fiddling with it.In other words, I'm not really commenting on the carb itself but with my experience in my application.Update: 3/2015FYI. The soft washer that seals the float bowl attachment screw to the bowl, disintegrated over the year since I installed the carb. I guess it's not ethanol proof.

Put it on my snow blower and worked great for a half hour, then it started leaking a lot of gas from the bowl vent and now engine runs terrible now. I don't know how to fix it so was a real waste of money. The box it came in just had Chinese all over it but never saw where is says it's an Oregon carb. This carb does not have a bowl adjustment screw like the original so you can't make float adjustments that probably would have corrected the overflow problem. I would not have bought this had I known there was no float adjustment.
