About this item

  • Cypress vine grows as an annual climber reaching heights of 78 inches in USDA Zones 3 - 10.
  • Ipomoea pennata is commonly called Cypress Vine. It is an annual that during the growing seaso will climb a trellis, arbor, fence or pergola or whatever is near! This mix produces dazzling bright flowers in shades of white, red and rose that are nectar-rich which humming birds love.
  • Hummingbirds and butterflies cannot leave this mix alone. The flowers bloom all summer long, and they benefit from deadheading. The foliage is unique and very attractive with feathery or ferny leaves.
  • Grow Ipomoea pennata in full sun to partial shade and in well-drained soil. Cypress vine is a cousin to the ever popular morning glory plant.
  • Sow 2 - 3 of these heirloom, non gmo seeds for every vining plant you want climbing in your flower garden.

Product Description

A favorite of gardeners, this annual is related to Morning Glories. It grows as easily from Cypress Vine flower seed and as quickly as Morning Glories, but it also offers some additional features. Cypress Vines have a wonderful, feathery foliage that adds interest and texture. Morning Glories have lovely heart-shaped leaves, but they tend to blend in to each other and not stand out much. Not so with Cypress Vine foliage. It's attractive and interesting even when not in bloom. This Cypress Vine flower seed mix will grow blooms that are white, bright red, and rose, and they are produced in mass! They stay opened all day which is great for the hummingbirds who absolutely love their nectar. In fact, the Ipomoea vine also is commonly called Hummingbird Vine and Star Glory.

Cypress Vine plants grow well in full sun or partial shade. They are not picky about the quality of soil, but it does need to have good drainage. Once the Cypress Vine Star Glory plant is established well, it can withstand periods of drought. However, it will grow faster and have more blooms with regular water. Deadheading the spent blooms will encourage a prolonged bloom season. Blooms will usually start the first of summer and continue until fall. In some frost free areas, Cypress Vine will grow as a perennial.

Some gardeners recommend soaking the Hummingbird Vine seeds in tepid water for 2 hours before sowing. This is supposed to quicken germination. Sow the Cypress Vine flower seed indoors 3 - 4 weeks before the end of frost season. Using small pots, sow the flower seeds onto moist starter mix and cover 1/8 inch with soil. Keep the Ipomoea Pennata seed moist until germination. Transplant the seedling outdoors after danger of frost. Another method would be to directly sow Cypress Vine flower seeds outdoors after all danger of frost. Once the soil has warmed and can be loosened and weeded, sow 6 Cypress Vine seeds per foot. Cover with 1/8 inch garden soil, and keep them moist until germination. When seedlings emerge, thin to 9 - 12 inches apart.

Mostly had good luck with outside pride seeds. Had heard these can be difficult but so far getting about 50 % germination rate. Note when these first come up the first set of leaves are brown and dried up and look dead. Leave them alone and about a week or so later they turn green then a week later they start the little fern like leaves. First time growing them and am excited. I believe Outside Pride to be a reputable company with good value and I am getting about 60% good bags of seeds to 40% bad batches. On Amazon that is pretty good performance. As always I have never been paid to review and always give my honest Opinion. If my opinion changes later on I change my review. My experience could be dramatically different than yours. If your seeds don't grow and mine does, means nothing other than different outcomes and if you were successful and I wasn't doesn't mean I am stupid. I have been gardening over 60 years and try new things every year and love gardening. In reality if you buy 2 bags of seeds and it cost you 14 or 16 for the 2 and if both are good fantastic, if only 1 is good is still a pretty good deal because you can't buy these particular seeds at walmart or the local feed store.

I thought these were interesting. I put the seeds in a damp paper towel and put it in a baggie for 5 hours. I then planted them into the ground. They grew fast. Do not plant near other flowers or plants. This will take over them. I didn’t know and planted them next to my sunflowers and they totally took over my sunflower stalks. So place them farther away. They are beautiful and unique and have been nothing but healthy since I planted them. Definitely good value for the money.

I had to order these 4x before I finally got them but persistence pays off! I love these flowers! They're really cute, they look like stars, and the colors are happy. I wish I got some more seeds for the price.

Waiting on germination, but one thing for sure packet does not contain 100 seeds, not even 50. The good thing about Cypress Vine is you dont need all 100 to germinate, or even half. Just one or two success germinations will yield 10 times the seeds later.Still, should not be advertising 100 seeds when it is not 100. Will update rating once germination came through.

It seems these turn to mud or stones by the time they get to India, but the India "Buyer" just happens to have another site to refer to buy them... "Hey Guys"!But back here in the real world where seeds don't magically turn to mud, these germinated Very well. No noticed diseases or problems, so although it's probably too late for this year, Next Year buy in confidence that these will germinate if handled properly. Keep them warm with lots of light. Also, keep the rabbits away. I suggest an inexpensive 1 or 2 pounds of Cayenne pepper powder available here on Amazon, dusted around the plants. Rabbits don't eat hot Currey... at least around here.

I would like to give no stars. The seeds are not real. They gave me small stone pieces. The seeds of cypress Vines are supposed to be oval and black. They provided wrong material which was not seed but small pieces of mud or something
