This fireplace cover is a simple heavy thermal blanket with button magnets sewn in across the top and down the sides and even along the bottom. It arrives shrink-wrapped with no instructions or any other parts.Because this fireplace cover uses magnets to put it in place, your fireplace needs to have an iron, steel, nickel, or cobalt frame. Our fireplace is simply bricks, with no metal frame. But we do have a metal hood with a chain-link curtain that attaches to bolts coming out from the front of our chimney. I assumed that the magnetic cover could attach to the hood, and some of the magnets could hold onto the chain.Well, it turns out that the metal hood is brass, so the magnets don't work. The chain is iron, but the fireplace cover is too heavy to hang using only the side magnets holding onto the chain. And if we close the iron chain-link and try to hang the cover from it entirely, the cover leaves a gap along the top.Fortunately, I was able to tuck the cover behind the brass hood, where it stays in place nicely without using any magnets. It covers the fireplace well, and I cannot feel any drafts around the edges. It would be rather inconvenient for us to have to remove and then replace the cover every time we use the fireplace; but as our fireplace is unused, that is not a problem.Because the product is well made, I'm giving it four stars. Because it does not provide a very clear explanation of where to measure when measuring your fireplace (like measuring the outer edge of the fireplace frame, instead) and because it comes with no instructions or trouble-shooting advice, I'm taking off one star.It seems that most modern fireplaces already have a metal frame, but for those of us with older unframed fireplaces, we may need to buy a combo cover that includes some sort of frame.

Works great on these cold days. Keep the cold drafts out. Magnets are super strong

I made a mistake and didn’t fully read the details as it’s designed for a metal insert or fireplace and we have a brick, wood burning fireplace. But that just meant we needed to figure something else out and we did! We ordered magnetic strips with sticky tape one side and magnetic on the other. Works great and very satisfied with the durability and thickness of the material. Thank you!

Slightly larger than the fireplace opening but very effective at blocking the draft. Would want to note that one side has the magnetic portion easily available and the other side is too thick for the magnet to work. Double check which is which before attempting to put this in place. Would purchase again as a gift if someone else needed one, not anticipating I'll need another.Make sure to let it breathe prior to putting in place, it'll look better after a few days out of the bag.

The material and magnets (in number) are as shown. It was 1 inch bigger than our fireplace, but I still got it thinking the extra one inch won't make a difference but I was wrong, it doesn't fit properly. Even if it was a perfect fit, being completely straight, the magnets are not that strong to keep the whole fireplace covered seamlessly. The place between two magnets lets air come in so it doesn't work as advertised. May be it will work great for when it is a perfect fit on the fireplace but not otherwise.
