From the Manufacturer

The PanaVise 502 precision PanaPress is a versatile and compact arbor press used in manufacturing, or as a repair tool. The PanaPress is used for pressing bearings, sleeves, and collars, as well as forming, and assembling small parts, broaching, and staking using its reversible rack. The ram component of the PanaVise 502 precision PanaPress is rack and pinion driven and applies up to 1/4 ton (500 lbs. / 227 kg) of pressure.

A compact arbor press useful in manufacturing or as a repair tool.
A rack and pinion driven ram delivers 1/4 ton of pressure right where you need it.
1/4 Ton of Pressure for Industrial Tooling and Repair

The 502 precision PanaPress is an arbor press composed of a 5-7/8" (149.2 mm) long ram housed within a 7" tall press body that sits on a 3-11/16" x 7" (94 mm x 177.8 mm) base. The ram is rack and pinion driven, delivering 1/4 ton (500 lbs.) of pressure along its 3/4" x 3/4" (19.1 mm x 19.1 mm) square end with the downward pull of the unit's 8" (203.2 mm) arm. The level of pressure focused on a precise spot is ideal for pressing bearings, sleeves and collars, as well as forming and assembling small parts, broaching and staking. Accuracy of the ram movement is ensured by four adjustable nylon gibs, arranged along the top face of the PanaPress, which provide strong ram control. The ram is reversible, with one end containing a 1/4" hole accurately reamed for use in optional tooling using available PanaPress accessories (sold separately). Accessories can also be mounted using the two pre-drilled and tapped 1/4"-20 holes in the base of the unit. Four 1/4" (6.3 mm) countersunk holes are provided in the base for mounting of the 502 precision PanaPress to work surfaces.

I use this in the creation of fine jewelry. When shopping for a press, I kept finding crude, sloppy tools that were made overseas and slapped over with paint to hide construction flaws. This one is US made and does the job with precision. If you are using an arbor press as a professional tool (as opposed to a garage hobby), it's well worth spending the extra money on this little beauty. I wish they made a 1/2 ton as well. The 1/4 ton works well for most jobs, but there are times when moving thick metal could use a little more power.

It appears to be well made. I have purchased over a dozen small arbor presses, 1/2 and 1 ton, to be used in making assembly and gate shearing fixtures for the plastic molding industries. I did not have a chance to use it but I was so excited to find a press with a removable base that I did not read fully the product description. The structure and base is made of die cast zinc. A material not known for robust longevity. This was my failing. I can still use it for very light duty pressing in pins, but as a production fixture , not likely.

I was looking for a press that was more precise than the huge and heavy over seas presses I already have. This press has been in daily production use dealing primarily with pressing PEM nuts and dowel pins into aluminum. I was very surprised how small it is but seems to have no problem working at it rated capacity all day every day for us. The ram is adjustable on what appears to be nylon gibbs, making it smooth and very little play which is critical for pressing precision dowel pins perfectly straight. I was able to get a product that is made in the USA that is smaller and better than the 3 other presses that I have. This is the only one I use now. It is so lightweight that I don't bolt it down, I use a C-Clamp to hold it when I need it and I put it on a shelf afterwards to save bench space.

I had to mill mine to .250. It arrived at .215 and would not accept standard tools. Useless unless you have the tools and expertise to correct manufacturing mistake.

I bought this for my husband as he manufacturers many small devices and wanted this tool to help speed up his process. He is very satisfied with this product and finds it easy to use, extremely precise, and stronger than it looks! I don't think there is any comparible product out there, and he will probably be bolting it to his workbench soon since it is now a staple in his garage tools.

This little bench press, it's too light weight! Should be more heavy or at least need more base area for some kind of clamp, so it can be more stable on any bench!

I purchased this press for several tasks in assembling ammunition for antique firearms, for which reloading supplies are unavailable. It is light enough in operation that the user can accurately gauge the amount of force applied to press small articles together, which in the range of say less than 100 pounds, would be difficult with a larger and heavier arbor press with more leverage. My only small gripe is that it does not come with a plate to cover the slot in the base. This is a very small complaint, since the provided screws can be used with a small square of ~ 1/4" Aluminum to secure a flat work surface. So far (a few hours of use) the plastic jibs work well in aligning the ram and rendering it snug in the frame. It is very nice to have this lightweight press available, where more conventional cast iron designs, even of small capacity, would weight upwards of 40-50 pounds. I mounted it on a square of plywood and can easily stow it in a corner of my pretty cramped workshop when not in use. So I am very pleased with this purchase and highly recommend it for those with a need to apply up to perhaps 250 pounds of compression force in an assembly operation.
