These connectors mate with any standard 0.1" spaced dual-row pin headers. The insulation displacement (IDC) contacts on these connectors allow them to be quickly and easily crimped onto flat ribbon cable. These are female sockets designed to connect to male pin headers. I recently took on a project of building a VPO (Virtual Pipe Organ). The 16p ribbon cables that came with the midi encoder kit, were way too short for my needs, so I needed to make my own. I bought these connectors and worked flawlessly, made several 16p ribbon cables of various lengths to fit my needs. Worked out great! To crimp, I just use a regular bench vice, no issues at all.

I bought these connectors to make my own custom length ribbon cables. I do not have the crimping tool to install these, but a slight tap from a hammer got the wire seated correctly in these connectors. These type of connectors work by cutting the wire as it is sandwiched between the pieces, so it is important to make sure it is well seated so that connectivity is achieved. I had one that I made that wasn't entirely seated and failed upon testing. Overall these are a great product and achieve exactly what their function is.

These are astonishingly fragile. Well over half have broken while putting together a cable. I gave up on the crimping and am using a rubber coated vice to assemble. Even when I am careful and take it slow, the little arms snap during crimping. To the point I do not really trust the cables I have assembled to survive being unplugged more than one or two times.
