Originally bought them for my old coleman scanoe but i sold it before i ever got to use them. They don't fit the gunwales of my Lifetime Wastach 130 so I’ve never used them. I plan to use the foam blocks on a pair of saw horses to hold my canoe which I think they will work perfectly for that. 4 stars because the straps seem kind of cheap, other wise good product.

We used it on top of our pop up camper, worked great. It did take a little readjusting, but in the end, just what we needed to take our canoe along.

Nice durable foam that should hold up for multiple uses. Straps are cheap, but they get the job done. Also didn't scratch up the roof of my truck, which is always a plus. I used this in northern Maine where they got muddy, rained on, and used in saltwater. No signs of breakdown from the foam.

I truly bought this "kit", if you can call it that for the foam blocks. As soon as it arrived I inspected the straps and they were exactly what I thought they were, trash. I have seen better straps at the dollar store. The straps are very poorly made and probably have a break strength of 50 lbs. And were they even ratchet straps? NOPE. They were pull tight buckles. If I would have used these, I would have lost the canoe on the first on ramp! I threw them out immediately and used my trusty 2" 1000lb ratchet straps! The foam blocks did their job and once properly tied down, the canoe didn't move 1 centimeter, even at 75 MPH with a 30 MPH cross wind. Took the canoe 100 miles only to find out the lake were gonna go out on was not accessible. Back home another 100 miles we went. Took the canoe off the roof and paint was perfect, canoe unharmed (17 foot Aluminum canoe) and the blocks returned to their original shape after a few minutes in the sun. The blocks did their job and so did my PERSONAL straps. the original straps from this kit are doing their job, sitting in a landfill.In Conclusion, buy this kit for the blocks and ONLY the blocks. Throw those cheap crap straps it comes with out as soon as possible.

Pads fit well and snug. Only complaint is that one strap was fairly short and barely fit around the combined width of canoe and car.

overall the product worked as described. I used the carrier kit to haul my 17 ft grumman canoe from Indiana to Florida and had no issues. However, I did use ratchet straps to secure both ends of the canoe to the vehicle. The nylon straps were of adequate length and durability as were the hardware to lock them in to place. THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT IF HAULING A CANOE...go to Dollar Tree or some other retailer and purchase the 4 foot long hollowed out pool noodles, feed the nylon straps through them and then mount them over the top of the canoe. This will entirely eliminate the transport vehicle's cabin noise that is a product of using the nylon straps that is inherent when transporting a canoe.

We used these for the first time this weekend. The foam blocks fit perfectly and did their job. We used to 2 straps that came with it (1 on the rear, 1 over the middle) and 2 of our own ratchet straps (on the front). On our way back from a camping trip, the Pelican straps broke as we were pulling into a gas station, sending the canoe flying off the roof and taking our straps with it. It's a good thing we were stopping to make sure it was all still secure because this could have been much worse. We were also pulling a camper. Pelican canoe is less than 6 months old and is now all banged up and missing a carry handle. We now have a truck with dents, scratches and broken on star shark fin. And, of course, no one at Pelican will answer the phone the 6 different times I've called. Horrible product!

Product is great and does exactly as intended! Buy new /better straps as the ones included are crap and will break/loosen up easily.Blocks are great though!

As the title states, the foam blocks are great and work well but I don't trust the straps. So only buy this with the intention of using the blocks and know that you need to buy a separate pair of tie-down straps for the body of the canoe and bow and stern tie downs. What comes with the kit besides the block do not seem safe at all even in low speeds.We have a ~16ft canoe and it's about 60lbs, so a big heavy tank of a canoe. I purchased a separate pair of ratcheting tie-downs for the body - generally you shouldn't do this but our canoe is a tank and not worried about damaging our denting our car. We do not have a rack on our car, the blocks are straight on the roof of the car. I also go a pair of ratcheting 1/4" rope tie-downs to hook to the hood loop straps on the front and to frame/trunk at the back of the car to secure it to the roof. This definitely seemed necessary with such a large and heavy canoe especially if we intend to take it on the highway.The foam blocks are great, I've used them several time and there doesn't seem to be any damage to them. I have a couple other friends who also have these foam blocks and they too like them and have the same issues with the straps. So know that this kit is really only for the blocks, everything else in the kit should not be used for safety concerns.
