It only works when the fleas touch the metal comb. And FY it shocks your dog. Those little black protectors that you see on it doesn't work.I recommend Run in it through your dog here, then turn it on after. It's like an electric fence. You can hear the shock waves. And see it electricity. You can also run it across your carpet.Wherever your dog is

Unable to use the fleacomb, put the batteries in and was unable to close the back portion. The back piece kept falling off everytime I touched the comb. Ended up tossing it in the trash and borrowed the one my daughter has. Same exact type but works great.

This product looks as advertised, but it is not quiet at all. The noise is fairly annoying to a human and not tolerable to cats. In fact it is such a high pitch electric charge noise that gets even louder when the device is used. I left the comb running for a about 20 seconds and it smelled burned. The teeth of the comb are out of metal and the tips are covered with a rubber nob. In time I'm sure these rubber noise will wear off and may be able to shock an animal, in particular when used in longer hair.I have 3 cats. The teeth of the comb are not long enough to get through long hair, I had to split my cats hair to get to the skin part and potential fleas, but when I turned the devise on my cat ran and hid in a different room. My second cat has medium short hair that is very silky and easy to comb, but again, he was OK with the comb until I turned it on and now as soon as he sees the device he leaves. My third cat is a calico with mostly white, thick, short hair and she is deaf.I treat my cats with Frontline and they are never infested with fleas but only have a few once in a while. I tried the comb on her, and I guess, because she is deaf, she tolerated the noise. But the comb was hard to use, and I was not successful of zapping the one flea I saw. I ended up picking it out of her coat with my fingers.Summary: this comb is not worth the purchase, my cats are afraid of the noise, and it does not work, in particular on long hair, its a lost cause.I cannot recommend this purchase and will return it.

This product works great on fleas! We used it on 4 kittens we found under our shed until they were old enough for professional flea control products. I still use it now & then just to make sure they are free of fleas. The draw back is the quality of how they are made. The inside parts came loose in my first one and on both units the battery door won't stay engaged so I have to tape around it. Otherwise, it's a keeper!I ordered this from Prime & as always, shipping time & packaging were excellent!

The first one I had worked great until the batteries wouldn't stay in place. Then I ordered another one and discovered that the switch to bring out the comb was stuck. I sent it back and got a replacement. The replacement I received today has the same problem with the comb getting stuck as the one I just got replaced. I'm not sending this back for I will try to use it. I'm just disappointed in a product that is designed so well, but poorly made.

This is completely useless, doesn't work at all, beeps all time (not only when finds flea) and if a flea is found doesn't zap at all. The battery cover pops off spilling batteries constantly. It's all very frustrating and will be returned immediately.

First, I have 3 different dogs that have 3 different hair types. I have a rat terrier with thick-medium long hair. He picks up the most fleas on walks and in the yard. They drive him nuts instantly. I first used the Flea Doctor comb without it turned on - just to get him used to the comb. He liked it. I then moved to turning it on. It beeps. It beeps fast when it has a flea stuck in the comb that is being zapper. The beeping didn't really bother him as I started away from his head. Now that he knows he feels much better after I use this on him, he comes over to get combed after outings. It works. The comb ZAPS the fleas and kills them. (Delightful!!!)My other two dogs have much shorter hair. They also like it but you have to be very careful to hold the comb at a 90 degree angle. Do not go over their body where there is very little or no hair - they will feel the zap. One of the two doesn't mind, but the other one - doesn't like it if she feels the tingle of the zap - of course.Bottom line - it works especially on dogs with medium to long hair.If you don't read the instructions and hold the produce correctly - you probably won't get good results. :-)

We have 3 cats, used on all of them, and I must say it does work really good, even took off the scabs off my 1 cat and made her coat really soft and fluffy again. Love it

Cheap but not worth the investment. Scared the cats, only stunned 1 bug mostly just brushed the cat. Easy enough to use sounds like a good idea but not for me

it actually does its job pretty well, unfortunately most of the time flea takes a few more 'shot's to get killed or stunned, but it does work, once hit, i can see the flea flinch and get paralyzed, and few more hits its done.easy to clean as well..Its just that the product came with no indication of -/+ signs in the battery holder and it was pain in the ass to take them out when they were inserted in wrong direction. Otherwise im pretty happy with the item
