This pad has been great for our older cat. We heat it for 30 sec, shake it, then heat it for 30 more seconds. It goes in the cat bed under a light throw. The cat has learned the process of heating it and runs for the bed. She is a small cat on a small bed with the heat between a couple of small throws. The pad is still warm hours later when we check it. She is warm and can sleep.We heat it once or twice a day and are careful not to overheat. After a year and 200+ trips to the microwave, we notice that the gel seems to be getting thicker and there is less of it. It does not have a leak, but we think it is losing water from the gel somehow. This has been a very slow process, so maybe there is a way for the water to evaporate when the pad is heated or perhaps the gel changes composition after enough uses. The pad still has gel and works fine, so until it melts or otherwise falls apart, we are thrilled to have it.We have washed the cover but hung it to dry. It has not shrunk and is still soft. Overall, this is a great warming pad. It continues to be a very good value.

I live in the high desert and I will be ordering more of these I throw them in the freezer in the summertime and the cats like to hide under the couch and I'll slide them under the couch when it's 110° outside because I live in a motorhome and even with an air conditioner it's still hard to keep parts of the house cool and I can freeze these put them where the cats like to lay down and they stay cool it's also really good for sore muscles on you and when my wrist was broken after being attacked I ran inside grabbed it wrapped it around my wrist until the ambulance came it's amazing you can't have enough of these

this works well for outdoor cats because it holds the heat for 8 or more hours. Must be monitored because once the heat is gone it will get cold and hold the chill

My very finicky elderly cat absolutely loves this pad. It's like a heated waterbed for cats -- soft, plush, and pliable. The outer fabric and inner soft plastic shell seem sturdy enough to last a long time.I wish the pad would stay warm longer than three hours, and the procedure to heat it could be simpler: The pad must be warmed in a microwave in about four or five 30-second increments, and flipped over and massaged between increments to prevent overheating of any portion of the pad. My other cat heating pad is a hard-shell pad that can be nuked in one four-minute run of the microwave and lasts at least four hours -- but my cat prefers this soft pad.The pad is the same size as the average microwave turntable, so a large cat could either curl up on it with his feet hanging off, or stretch out across two of the pads.

This is my third purchase of this product. The product is a soft gel, my 5-pound chihuahua loves it but..... The first time it lasted about a year and blew a hole so I taped it. It does take time to heat, more aggravating than long, you have to microwave for 30-second intervals, each time moving the gel around and flipping the pad over (says on the instructions). The second time it lasted about 7-months. The third time it lasted a month, each time a hole blows out the side of the bag. This time when it broke I put it in a large zip lock bag and didn't fully close the bag all the way so the bag doesn't explode, and I don't have to worry about the gel leaking out onto the cover. I'm in a bit of a pickle, my dog loves the softness of this product but I don't want to keep buying a new one all the time. I recently bought a Snuggle Safe, more expensive but I figured you get what you pay for and the thing is hard as a rock. It's for heating and NOT for comfort.

I bought this to use with my foster kittens for heating purposes, so I can only speak to the gel pad's heating features.Pros: The gel pad is appealing and soft with a very cute cover. A bonus is that both the pad and cover are washable. Because you heat it up in the microwave for 30-sec increments, you can gauge the amount of heat you want it to be and that's perfect for neonatal kittens (aka "bottle babies"}. I can see this pad being in the emergency kit of a wildlife or animal rescue person or organization. This pad is good for short trip travel (2hrs or less). A big pro is that it doubles as a cooling pad too. I never used it for the kittens but it worked very well for my migraines. LOLCons: Unfortunately, it only stays warm for 2 hours max. That's really the only con and that's too bad since that's the main reason why people purchase it. Currently, I use the gel pad's cooling capability for my migraines. Hey, I paid for it. I might as well use it for something, right?

My dog has a bad back injury and was on crate rest for several months. Every morning and night I would eat this up and place it along his spine. He loved it. It never gets hot to the touch, just a nice warm temperature. The pad is gel like inside. It took about 4 rounds in the microwave ( 30 sec each) to get to the desired temperature. I recommend this and would buy it again

My foster kittens and I love this. I typically microwave it in the cover for 45 seconds, Squish it around, then 45 seconds more, and it's perfect. The cover can be washed which is excellent. Also I did a test to see how long it stayed warm. If you just leave it sitting out it doesn't stay warm very long. If you cover it with blankets it stays warm a few hours. When the kittens are laying on it it stays warm for even longer! So just because it cools down quick when not it use, doesn't mean it won't keep your animal safe warm.

My elderly cat loves this. If I had to quibble about anything, it's that the diameter could be a bit bigger. That's it though. Even at this size it was worth the money.

Nice soft cover and cozy gel pad, but its difficult to warm evenly (you need so push the gel around to mix it after heating every 30 seconds, 4 to 5 times) which is annoying and after that it doesn't stay warm for long.
