I use this to climb with. I own a small tree service and I have a lot of trees I climb daily and this has come in so handy for me. I love that it has a read line to show when it is NOT secured! The carabiner is very sturdy and has amazing build quality. I love Petzl and will absolutely be buying more.

I use this in wet and sandy canyons as the connection between my rappel device and my belay loop (see pic)I've gone through two rappel devices (aluminum wears quick) and, other than some mild removal of the paint? phosphate?, this carabiner still works fine. Despite getting pretty sandy, the gate still opens properly. The wide bend radius means this is easy to tie a line on. Unlike aluminum carabiners, this can hold quite a bit cross-loaded and gate-open. It's not how you *should* use it, mind you, but it's good to know that should the need arise, even improperly loaded this can readily hold 3 or 4 people. They do weigh quite a bit, so I usually only carry two of these (one for my belay loop, one for rigging).

I'm not a "climber", so weight is not a consideration. I use these for rigging mechanical advantage systems with multiple pulleys and anchors. These are the best carabiners for this type of deployment.Think heavy lifting on the farm or around your property. I use often for tree felling, lifting heavy equipment, hay bails, etc. I also trust these with my life when doing tree work or for my rappel anchor. The pic is a 3" sheave pulley.

These are very strong and made with precision. The screw locks stay in place when tightened, and after you break them loose they quickly screw open with a couple flicks of your finger. They are quality made in Tiawan, the country that makes more than half the world's microprocessors. Taiwan is capable of high quality, precision manufacturing and it shows in these. I bought several and they are all identical in quality and finish. They're not light, but when I'm hanging in a tree it's never going to be from aluminum or anything made in China. These are beasts and a great value for a Petzel product.

I use the screw lock on my flipline and climb line just to be sure it will not open. And the steel is way stronger than aluminum with a small weight difference for safety is no question.

These are the larger, heavier oval type carabiners that I usually prefer because they seem to work best at keeping my ropes running smoothly. The gates work smoothly and the lock is easy to operate. I use the carabiners both with ropes and to connect to metal anchors and other pieces (like spinners and rigging plates).

As a person in a rope rescue team, this is my go to carabiner, I’ve been through miles of rope rescues and these has never let me down . And definitely has enough strength for two people!!! 34kn (7,644 lb ft)

PETZL is a classic brand in climbing equipment, and this Carabiner is a useful and functional steel version with all the appropriate certifications and specifications. I have not tested it to verify spec compliance, but no individual user would. PETZL is a classic European brand - from the Alps climbing tradition, and I bought the brand products based on this. I am a little disappointed that the products I received are made in Taiwan and not France, and PETZL doesn't even list it as a manufacturing location.Taiwan and even mainland China are making some good climbing gear, but when you pay extra for a legacy European brand - it would be nice to get a European manufactured product and not find yourself getting an off-shore product. I am sure the company enforces its quality control standards and protects the brand, but more accurate description and disclosure would be helpful for such life-critical components. I have lots of Taiwan-made Black Diamond carabiners and a basket of other high-spec China-made units, but I didn't pay the PETZL brand premium for them.
