My shower valve is a Price-Fister Avante 7105. I went with the OEM part because the last OEM part lasted 25 years. The old one has been tough to pull out or push in and was prone to leak if not fiddled with.It took about five minutes to replace the valve. The one I pulled looked exactly like this. It installed easy and now it pulls out and pushes in easily. It also does not leak!If you change yours, do not forget plumber's silicone grease. There are two areas with o-rings you smooth the silicone grease on for smooth operation. If you read some of the reviews, you can tell that some are not lubricating the o-rings.Lube it up!

I installed three of the shower systems which use this control about 30 years ago. One shower had some cement-like material trapped in the pipes (bad plumber, not the shower parts fault) which kept getting into the valves and over time damaged the controll. Recently it got really stiff, probably from the grease I used in rebuilding it over the years, so I finally found this part on Amazon and replaced the original valve. It works great! Getting the old value out was a pain, but this new one slid right in, fit perfectly, and no leaks. Best of all, the operation is totally effortless - both on/off and hot/cold movements work smoothly with minimal resistance. None of the stiffness the old one had.My other two showers with this part are still working OK, but are one is noticabley stiffer than the one I just fixed, so I've ordered another one of these. Coupled with replacing the shower heads it's like getting new showers.

Need to clean out the valve bore with a wire brush so the valve can slide in without issue. Easy to replace otherwise.

The only issue I had with installation is one of ours was hard to get out so that had nothing to do with these valves. These fit in exactly like the old ones I took out. They have a tab so they can only go in one way. One big tip is before you are removing the old one, make sure you have the hand in center between cold and hot, this way you know when you’re putting you handle back on in the same position it’s is correct. Just saves some time and it’s perfect when done the first time.

This is the OEM part you would get from Price Pfister if they sold it. There's more than one cartridge here on Amazon with a similar model number but if you go to the Pfister website it'll redirect you to this one when you click the buy online at Amazon tab. It's also at least half the cost here as other places. The cartridge is in Pfister packaging and is pre-lubed with silicone grease ready for installation. You won't need to buy the extra silicone grease but for a little over $4 some Danco silicone grease 88693 is a good investment and always good to have on hand. I added a little more to the O-rings and cartridge just in case and it slipped into the 32 year old valve body, that was carefully cleaned, without any problem.Update 01/29/2023: There has been a noticeable reduction in water volume with this cartridge. Reason being is the shower head and hand spray have been modified to give the effect of a high pressure car wash. I suspect the port openings on this replacement cartridge are slightly smaller to restrict flow to 1.8 GPM mandated in some areas. While there isn't a significant reduction perhap a better option would have been to simply rebuild the original cartridge by replacing the O-rings, lubricating and reinstalling it. Unfortunately, that wasn't an option in this case as the port on the cold side had deteriorated due to age and was damaged requiring replacement of the cartridge. On the plus side the valve trim handle works smoother now than it ever has.

Our shower valve control and handle were worn out (see photos). When the shower was pulled on, water would leak from the handle area into the shower. The handle itself looked bad.I ordered this Pfister 9742920 Replacement Part cartridge, which was a perfect fit. I also ordered thePfister Pfirst Series Shower Only Trim Kit, Valve Not Included, 1-Handle, Polished Chrome Finish, LJ89020C, but wasn't sure if this new handle would fit over it. It fits perfectly over the new cartridge. Be sure to hang onto the special hex wrench in case you need to tighten the handle in the future. This looks much better than the 25-year-old handle it replaced (see photo), and it saved me hundreds over having a plumber do the work.

Easy replacement for old, stiff cartridge. Be sure to shut-off water supply prior to faucet before removing retaining piece in valve.
