I'm afraid this review is going to be a little wordy. Bare with me. The reason I bought these pulleys was to further increase the throwing distance of my old 2 stage snow blower. I already added rubber paddles to the impeller at a cost of around $10. This year I spent $ 70 for two pulleys (1/2"larger) and two slightly larger (longer) V belts. I knew at the start that I didn't have much room to mess around with under the belt cover. I also knew that my 3L and 4L belts would need to rest near the shoulder of the pulley and not lay too far into the groove for 2 reasons. 1) If the belt lays too low in the groove it would defeat or maybe even decrease the the actual pulley size intended. 2) Reassembly, I had to be able to get the newly resized belt over the shoulder of my new pulley.About Phoenix pulleys, the sheave portion is "spun formed" from flat sheet metal stock. On one side of the sheave the metal is folded over (like a hem) then continues down to form the V and back up to form the other shoulder. The sheave is then welded to the hub. Genius! This design likely allows the manufacture to change the sizes being produced by adjusting set points thus eliminating the need for stamping and numerous sizes of dies or expensive metal casting and machining. For these pulleys to work for my application I needed to change to width of the V and I accomplished this with the careful use of an arbor press and hammers. I assume most people will not be willing to do all that My project is now complete but has not been "work tested" because the snow has since melted. Waiting for the next snowfall to test it out.To Phoenix: please refine your sizing of the pulleys. If possible, manufacture 3/8" or 3L and 1/2" or 4L widths and market them as such. The world of pulleys would then be a much better place.
