Perfect tool for digging in the dirt. I initially purchased a heavier duty more expensive model that was very well rated on Amazon but it was to big and too heavy so I returned it. I didn't buy a mattock to break wood or replace a maul, just for digging in the dirt and cutting small roots. This one is just what I needed.

They had two size options available (14.9 & 15â€) so I ordered one of each. After they both arrived I compared them and they are exactly the same size.I don’t mind since it’s a quality item and the size works well for me.

This pick is very well built - came in one piece, the handle is solid wood but yet both are light - I use this tool to pull up rocks from the ground that I find during hiking for my collection - absolutely perfect for my application - not too heavy to hike for miles with this tool in my bag.

The head of this pick looks to be sturdy enough for what I want it for. Combined with the handle, it makes a very light package. However, a few swings with this thing and both of the rivets holding the head to the handle came apart. Since I was modifying it for my use (gold prospecting), I was OK with it and figured I'd just drop some bolts through it with Nyloc nuts and call it good. However, got get the head to not slop around, I had to drive it down an inch and cut off the excess. Re-fitting the rivents, but swapping the ends I was able to make a single rivet that should hold well, and I am now using this with one hole drilled and a single rivet. The only other mod I will make is to thin down the handle a little since it's just a tad too big for my hands (typically I wear a large glove). It will do the job I need it to, but not as it arrived, and I'd not use it for even home gardening in the condition in which it arrived.
