The search is finally over. These leads are like the old No. 2 pencils we grew up with: soft, dark, and smooth. Years ago it was fairly easy to find leads like this, but no more. Current HB leads from even quality suppliers are hard, brittle, and rough, like dragging a needle across the paper. Too much clay instead of graphite, apparently.So I took a chance on a B level lead from this company and it paid off. As a farmer I carry a stack of index cards in my vest pocket for note taking. And I always use mechanical pencils. Sometimes I find myself writing on surfaces like painted tanks or plastic tags. A pencil beats a pen any day. And these B leads are the best I've found. BTW--I like .7mm.I paid full price for this product and I received no compensation of any kind to write this review. I've reviewed products truthfully for years here and I detest any efforts to game the system.

If you are looking for a softer lead, this works well. I've only tried the "B" hardness, which is smooth and easy to write with. I got it in three sizes, .5mm, .7mm, and .9mm, all of them satisfactory.

i bought this thinking it was a little pricey for lead. i didnt change my mind about that but this lead is great! i got some 'discount' pentel lead at my school's campus store to compare and there is a night and day difference in quality. this 2B lead is very smooth when drawing on paper and has very good dark levels. its like some charcoal qualities got in my graphite and i love it!

I use these in the mechanical pencil I use to record items in my check book.The softer lead makes these entries a lot easier to read.

I was disappointed with the red hue of this lead. It writes in more of a pink color, rather than the red I was looking for. If that is the color you were trying to find, then I think you will find it a good lead, a good price, and you should be pleased with your purchase. I personally didn't like the color thus I gave it only four stars.

I use these in my mechanical pencils for sketching. They make the darkest lines compared to several others of the same hardness that I have tested, and the marks will also erase well.

I like his product very much. Leads do not smudge too much and the lines are nice and dark.Using this in a Caran d'ache 844 mechanical pencil and I'm quite happy with it. Will purchase 0.5MM leads for my other mechanical pencils!
