I first soaked it in water to remove tannins. After drawing off water several times over several weeks, I have cut and place in an aquarium, then topped with gravel (for plants). It has been about 6 months the plants have been growing fairly well (mostly growing slow growth type plants). Today I was removing one plantto transfer to another aquarium I notice it had rooted very well into the mat. I was able to remove it with most of the roots. The coconut fiber is working very well as a source for anchoring plants once it roots. The coconut fiber is a little hard to work with because of its thickness, however after soaking it was a little bit easier, however take care cutting it into shape with a good cutting tool.

Not 100% sure about how to clean it yet my plan is to hit it with a water hose and dial dish soap but that's why I got two of them to replace it in and out for my bearded dragon and I got it yesterday put it in his cage and he slept on it all night last night where his hide was so I'm thinking he liked it

One pad was 1/2 thick the other only a 1/4 inch. I was hoping they would be the same thickness.

Seems really cheaply made. There was trash embedded into the fibers of the mat. I pulled out clumps of really thin plastic and gravel from the center of the mat as soon as I took it out of the bag. My beardie could have easily pulled it out of the fibers and choked on it.

Wish there were size options. I have to cut to 12" x 12" but they work well.
