Just Me

I swear it has to be a trick to see if I notice, why would they send me anything less than their best product to evaluate? I think maybe it is a test of my honesty. The loop of steel rod is perpendicular to the spatula end. I don't know how much of a problem this would be in a pizzeria, however, it is a very real problem at a home, this isn't something that you can throw in a drawer when you are not using it, the ability to hang it is pretty important. Having said that, otherwise, the fit and finish are excellent and the wood is not some sort of cheap pressed wood, it looks and feels like Ash, like a baseball bat.Making a pizza at home really means buying one at the supermarket and that means that putting it in is no issue, it is frozen. However, taking the pizza out of the oven is another matter entirely. A pizza spatula comes in very handy indeed and this is a nice one --except for the strange peculiarity above-- except that the people who thought up this product did not consider the relationship between the length of the handle and the size of the pizza spatula. It would seem that the extension might be more marketing affectation than functional tool because, while putting a personal pizza in with this tool into a large oven would be no issue, pulling an XL out of any oven might not work all that well. The spatula is simply too small for the kind of oven that would need the length. In fact, there would not be any way to use this spatula in my mother's kitchen, there literally isn't enough space behind the person to pull the pizza out if one moves the pole straight back. Fortunately, I have both, a lot more AND a lot less room. While I can try out the spatula with the extension in place, my kitchen is not huge. So, while I can take the pizza out of the oven with the extension on, I cannot turn around to place the pizza on a sheet...oh, the sheets...My assumption, one that I thought was perfectly reasonable, was that the pans that came in the set would reflect the sort of pizza one might get at the supermarket; nothing XL and New York style, something reasonable that one might enjoy dressing up by giving the entire process a kind of restaurant feel. Well....it might work with a personal pizza, the pizza sheets cannot take anything much larger than that! I mean, seriously?! The pans are perfect in terms of appearance and build quality, the problem is that I think the overwhelming majority of the nation would need a larger pizza and probably would use a frying pan spatula to place the personal pizza on a plate right out of the oven rather than a pizza spatula. A Papa Murphy's pizza would tax my oven, however, that is reason to use a pizza spatula, a microwave pizza, cooked in a conventional oven? not so much.I own a kind of pizza cutting template that works wonderfully. I decided to use the cutter that came with this spatula without the template to see how it compared to cutting using a roller and the template. Maybe, it just needs to be sharpened, it does, after all, come with a blade guard --always a nice choice and a mark of quality-- however, I was not really blown away by the cutter, not the way that I expected. Rocking to cut is a natural enough activity, however, it isn't really something you should do more than once because the rocking motion seems to move the cut just enough to create a strip of pizza apart from the slices that resulted from the cut.Sold with a full sized pan, rather than the extension and two small pans, this would be a fantastic product capable of causing human stampedes at Walmart. Don't get me wrong, if you wanted to make two personal pizzas for an intimate pizza night, those pans are beautifully rigid and shinny and feel more than durable --I know what I am talking about, my cookie sheets are looking at the far side of 25-- and I think that they are the perfect size for a chocolate chip cookie. However, if you thought you'd get the right pan to feed a baseball team --in keeping with the Ash handle as inspiration-- you'd be unpleasantly surprised. Still, take away the problem with hanging this pizza spatula and the wonderful quality of the small pans and the fit and finish of the handle would make this an exceptional purchase for someone who had several personal pizzas in the freezer.I am sorry, I love my microwave and I do not want to know what I would do without it; however, personal pizzas DO NOT BELONG IN THE MICROWAVE! Putting a pizza in the microwave is as sacrilegious as putting pineapples on a pizza! With this spatula and the cute pans, every personal pizza becomes a gourmet experience worthy of a Barolo or a Chianti depending on your preferences in sauces, meats, and spices. Throw some extra cheese on the personal pizza for a personal touch, some muenster, some asiago, some havarti, and, with the provolone and mozzarella already on there, you've given an otherwise bland pizza, a pan European flavor, pepper, oregano, basil, and a mountain of garlic and such a wonderful aroma will fill your kitchen that you'll be drooling by the time you find yourself grateful to have a wonderful pizza spatula to take the pizza out of the oven and a cute pan on which to put this magnificent pizza. Try some Herbes de Provence and some Brie and some Chèvre along with the mozzarella on the other personal pizza, one can always dream about drinking some Châteauneuf du Pape with this exquisite pizzeria experience. Make sure to use this wonderful spatula with the flair befitting the experience, enjoy!

This is a cool set, especially for the price. Personally we'll only be using the cutter and the plates. We don't have a pizza oven outside so the turner spatula thing is just too big to use indoors, I'd be banging the handle into the kitchen cabinet behind me lol. Fyi the plates are pretty small, they'd hold only 1-2 slices tops, maybe a small personal pan size (like a kid sized one). The cutter is really cool, I like it. My only complaint is that the protective sleeve the cutter goes in is such a tight fit I can't really see a way to clean the inside of it so I'd recommend not putting the cutter inside it unless it's clean.
