I have a master's degree in violin and prefer to use sponges with a high chin rest because I have narrow shoulders and shoulder rests never sit right for me, plus I want the violin to be able to move around a bit and not locked in one position. (I'm team sponge all the way! it may dampen the sound slightly but it's 100% worth it for the comfort and ease of playing) I bought this sponge for my new electric violin so that I don't have to transfer my one sponge back and forth between instrument cases and risk showing up to a gig without my sponge. It's a bit more stiff than the other one I'm using but it works with my electric violin since that chin rest isn't as high as my normal one (the kreddle). It isn't the full width of a full size violin, but you really don't need that. You just put the sponge where you need a sponge. (I'm also in the school of thought that the left hand does actually help hold the instrument up in a loose way, which makes a difference in how much sponge support you need)

I tried the shoulder pad that came with my violin and my collar bone hurt. So I ordered the foam shoulder pad and it works perfect. I use a rubber band to put around it to hold it in place and I haven't had a bit of trouble. Works perfect. Its soft and nothing hurts anymore. I like mine infact I ordered two of them. I made one of egg crate foam but it was a little thick for me. Maybe this will help someone. It works very good and is a lot less expensive.

It was bought along with Cecili Viola to replace rental and works well. Not exact same shape as the one that came with rental but still works.

It's a great chin rest, however, it's much too big for my grand daughters little violin.

I am experimenting with the shoulderless option and realized that under their concert suits, many violinists hide one of these. So... I gave it a try. It did not collapse as I was fearing and the free-style adjustment has allowed me to adjust it in the best position for me. The foam clings to the fabri (clothes) but not the violin, so it stays in place but still allows me to adjust the position of the violin. I practiced tonight with it and it is actually excellent!

For the price (and material), I thought this would have been a waste of my time buying this product. But once my son’s violin teacher showed him the proper way to strap it on and use it, it works perfectly. My son is pleased…and so am I, ðŸ˜

When your regular shoulder rest is just not getting along well anymore with your collar bone after long practice, this comes to the rescue. Easy to fit on violin with good old rubber bands, makes practice easier on the shoulder. With this price, you cannot go wrong. I couldn't find it locally and tried with regular sponges (for cleaning) and these we too soft. This one is just the right firmness. It doesn't not allow for a firm grip like the regular shoulder rest (Kun style), but it is a good tool to have in one's case.
