24-HOUR ROTTEN EGG SMELL ELIMINATION IN HOT WATER

Corro-Protec will remove the sulfur smell from well water and city water and is especially effective in hot water.

No matter what causes the sulfur odor in your hot water, the Corro-Protec powered anode rod offers a reliable and cost-effective solution for neutralizing it. Moreover, it is a time-efficient answer to your problem, as it requires no maintenance and does not involve the use of chemicals like hydrogen peroxide or bleach.

Once the system is operational, the energy projected by our powered anode rod will prevent these unpleasant smells for years to come! If the foul smell also originates from the cold water, it means that your water source is contaminated. In that case, Corro-Protec will help by reducing the odor in hot water but won't solve this issue in cold water.

Sulfur smell in hot water is a common issue around North America and affects both new and old water heaters. Rest assured, Corro-Protec is your trusted solution to effectively eliminate this persistent problem.

remove smell from well water city water and safe with water softener

CORRO-PROTEC IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED IF YOU HAVE A WATER SOFTENER

Corro-Protec anodes are safe with any water sources (city and well water) and water treatment systems (water softener, filtration, reverse osmosis, etc.).

It's worth knowing that water softeners can be very aggressive in causing corrosion because soft water is conducive, and thus prone to, corrosion. Additionally, they can promote the growth of Sulfur Reducing B (SRB), which is typically responsible for the rotten egg smell in hot water. The Corro-Protec powered anode rod will automatically adjust its current to provide optimum corrosion protection.

Corro-Protec Powered Anode Rod (titanium) VS Sacrificial anodes (magnesium, zinc and/or aluminum)

corro-protec powered anode rod for water heater corro protect water heater anode rod
A safe and small amount of current induced in the water heater tank by the powered anode rod

The Corro-Protec anode uses a completely different technology than sacrificial anode.

This technology will last much longer and will offer better protection to your tank.

Corro-Protec powered anode rods are Smaller, More Durable (20 years) & Better than any sacrificial anode rods.

  • Corro-Protec anodes are continuously tested in our lab in order to offer you safe and effective products.

Anode rod for hot water heater

CORRO-PROTEC POWERED ANODE ROD HAS BEEN DESIGNED AND TESTED TO LAST FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS

When a hot water tank is exposed to corrosive water, the sacrificial anode will transfer electrons to the inner side of the hot water tank to protect it. The anode will slowly deplete. After a year or so, there will be no more protection.

To protect your tank, replace the existing anode with a Corro-Protec Powered Anode Rod and connect the current rectifier. Our Corro-Protec combined with the electrical current will provide improved corrosion protection & increase the life of your water heater.

  • Powered anode rods are made of stable materials (titanium) that do not disintegrate like sacrificial anode (magnesium, aluminum and zinc).
  • A powered anode rod generates permanent protection instead of temporary protection.
  • Doesn’t require any maintenance like sacrificial anodes.
  • 12-inch long powered anode rods greatly facilitate installation in restricted space.
  • Safe to use with a water softener, and well and city water.

After months and multiple repair visits, we're finally rid of the rotten egg smell from our well water! The first repair guy replaced the old aluminum anode with a new one. Smell came back in less than a week. Second guy tried draining and flushing the water heater. No luck. This thing fixed the problem in a day. A neighbor told me about it. Neither of the plumbers we used knew anything about it.Because my water Bradford-White water heater requires water to feed through the powered electrode, I had to have the outgoing feed pipe offset a few inches -- so it involved some plumbing. Hasn't smelled for almost six months now.

My house water does not come from a public system (not chlorinated) and developed a bad odor. Research suggested that the source was free electrons catalyzing a microbial driven reaction in the electric water heater. Installation of this powered anode dramatically corrected the problem. Installation was simple and the instructions were clear.

Our rotten egg smell in the water grew worse this summer which I attributed to our aging household systems. We have very hard water here in rural South Jersey so we upgraded to a hefty water softening system in fall 2024. Afterwards, the rotten egg smell in the HOT water became unbearable, so I went to install a new anode rod in the water heater. However, the unit itself was so old I opted for replacing it with a new electric Bradford White water heater which “fixed” the problem. Within 2 days the rotten egg smell started in again and grew to be nauseating in the shower after 2 weeks. I flushed the water heater to relieve it, but the problem started back in again after 2 days. I then did some research and purchased the Corro-Protect for Bradford White even though my plumber was wary. I did not want to simply replace the aluminum rod with a zinc aluminum rod as he could not guarantee it and it would need to be replaced every few years at added expense. Corro-Protect has 20 year warranty. After flushing the system, the product was installed and have not had even a hint of the rotten egg smell for 6 weeks! Works 100% !!Btw - Great easy-to-read background research info about the chemistry of this problem on their website!

Short Version: Despite installation being difficult (I fully blame Bradford White and NOT Corro-Protec) I'm pleased that this powered anode rod has completely eliminated my stinky hot water situation.Long Version: What the heck was Bradford White thinking when they designed a hot water heater with the anode rod integrated into the discharge side of the hot water heater??? I'm very glad that Corro-Protec designed a product that even allows for installation, but the fact that this re-engineering had to occur in the first place is a complete and utter failure by the hot water heater manufacturer and is very consumer-unfriendly.With that rant out of the way, ease of installation is going to vary greatly depending upon your hot water discharge side setup and your ceiling height. Unfortunately for me, the my particular setup meant that I had to use a reciprocating saw to cut off part of the original anode rod as my ceiling was too low.The rest of the procedure was fairly straight forward, but did involve some trial and error. Make absolutely sure that you tighten the heck out of the supplied y-pipe so that the tapered edge seats against the threads of the water heater outlet.Installation aside, my only gripe is that the kit is perhaps a bit pricy for what you get. You do, however, get a 20-year warranty and a seemingly better engineered solution compared to similar products here on Amazon.Overall, I'd give a 4 out of 5 stars and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to others.

We have well water and a softener, but until our water heater was replaced no problem. The smell would come after about 3 weeks and I had the original anode (aluminum) replaced with magnesium. Same issue after 3 weeks. I wouldn't buy another Bradford White heater because the water discharge goes through the anode. This causes complications when installing the Corro-protect. Have to alter discharge pipe, but their ss fitting works well. This thing has worked without any odors for over 4 months! I have a 30 gallon tank and asked for the 5ma power supply. Customer service was great.

I bought two of these sets as the first fitting adapter did not appear to fit my Bradford White water heater but both had the same exact issue. Since both did not fit properly, it's not a QA issue - this simply was not designed properly in the first place. If you look at the picture, on the right is the adapter fitting included. On the left is the brand new magnesium rod from my new Bradford Unit. Notice that the taper on included fitting does not match. It is not tapered enough but it is also at a weird, non-symmetrical angle. When you try tighten it down by hand, then start to put a wrench on it, it immediately starts to go in at an angle. Despite what the manual says, do not use tape and do not force it down or it will ruin your threads inside your water heater and cause irreparable damage. What was supposed to be a 2 hour job replacing my old water heater became an all night job as I had to mill down the threads and create my own taper and proper angle. The end of the fitting is also very thin walls so there was very little margin for error milling it down. I used some pipe dope to ensure a good fit.At the end of the day, everything seems to work fine. No leaks and no weird smells (could also be cause I paid for a top of the line water heater). However, the amount of effort I had to put in to make this work was total not worth it and I should have returned it in the first place. If you are not handy and don't know how to fix the defective fitting they give you, do not attempt this as it will destroy your water heater and leak. For the astronomical price of this product it should work out the box.

I run off well water and already have a chlorine injection system and activated carbon filter. Even with this our hot water had an egg smell. Our water tank did not have an anode rod so I was doubtful this would do anything. Within hours of installing this the egg smell was completely gone. It’s been 4 days now and no smell at all. Fantastic product, and costs nothing to maintain (no additional chemicals). Highly recommend.

We lived in this house for several years and my parents had it before. There was always a Sulfur (rotten egg) smell when using hot water. A friend of mine pointed me to the anode in the hot water tank. From there I found the Coro-Protect product. I was a bit skeptical. Well within 12 hours the Sulfur smell was gone. Sure wish I had found that years ago. Fairly easy to install. Fitted perfectly.

Worked instantly (within a day) to get rid of rotten egg smell of well water -> new electric water heater.Reviewing 3 months later, still going strong. Would recommend if someone is having the same issue.MAKE sure to check that you are buying the correct model as I bought the wrong kind first, before I bought the "Bradford White" needed to fit my exact water heater.

Product arrived ahead of scheduled date. Relatively simple device but it is made of quality material with 20 year warranty. That should make it worth the price. Exceptional packaging, straight forward literature and very good company website; gives the impression this is a well run company. New well and water heater, extremely hard water (luckily no smell) to the extent that electrodes made a boiling sound when heating. After installing powered anode and before the tank came up to temperature the sound had decreased to almost nothing. Time will tell, but as long as the green light is on it will be far superior to conventional anodes for my situation.
