I was introduced to this brand of colored pencils years ago with a gift I received. They are very smooth to color with, and the color variety is great. My kids had the classic Crayola pencils but we found the Prang ones to be a better quality and much easier to sharpen. I ordered these when it was time to get new ones and do not regret it. We'll be getting Prang from now on.

My two packages of 50 Prangs arrived in pristine condition. Not a mark on the boxes, nothing squished, opened and spilled out like so many other colored pencil packs have done, when they arrive in a bubble envelope. Perhaps it was because they arrived with several other items in a big box, on my Amazon delivery day, placed between books, with very light boxes of seaweed snacks on top, and adequate packing paper. The shipping box must have been kept upright along the way, as well. In any case, unlike a few users, my Prangs are quite giftable.I purchased these as a little add-on gift for a couple families with kids I'm making art packs for, but they look so luscious I want a set for myself. At $4.70, there is almost no other option of any kind for a set of adult colored pencils, less expensive than these. Since Prangs are a well-liked inexpensive option for artists, and they're known for their soft cores and blendable vivid colors, this purchase was a no-brainer.

I spent a good deal of time researching colored pencils before I bought this particular set of Prang pencils. I compared a number of brands and read reviews for Prismacolor, RoseArt and even Crayola among others, and I finally settled on Prang after reading the many positive reviews. So far I am very pleased with these colored pencils.One of the main things that I was hoping to avoid with a colored pencil set is brittle, crumbly cores that require frequent sharpening. So far this set has not suffered from that issue and the cores seem to be solid. I have not had the misfortune of dropping a pencil yet so I am not sure how well they hold up when subjected to such a physical stress, but at least they’re not disintegrating as I draw.Colors are rich and bright. These pencils are neither too hard nor too soft so coverage is smooth and creamy. They blend nicely too which is good.There are 50 colors in this particular set of pencils so finding the right color (or combination of colors) is easy. There are pencil sets with over 100 colors but those cost a lot more (50 was the largest set I could find offered by Prang). Right now as I write this, this set goes for under $13 full retail, bringing the cost of each pencil in this set to about $0.25 apiece.So far I am very pleased with this set of colored pencils. The price is right and the pencils themselves seem to be of good quality. You can probably find a better set of pencils out there if you look hard enough but expect to pay more.

I bought these for my daughter when I bought her some of those very nice Dover coloring books. I bought myself the biggest set a year or so ago-- it's expensive, but they are great pencils.If you know what you're looking for then good pencils are important. For instance, the lead has to be strong and not break throughout the pencil if you drop it. The pencil lead has to be soft enough to get good coverage and must be blendable with other colors. Crayola, for instance, makes really bad brittle pencils. . . if you drop one, the lead is usually broken all the way through the pencil and you'll be sharpening the tip often.Now I didn't want to buy my little one Prismacolors because of the price. But, I didn't want to buy her bad pencils like Crayola or RoseArt just because of the price. I remembered how high quality Prang watercolors were and thought I'd look to see what they made in pencils.These are so excellent. I would say they are AS good as the expensive Prismacolors. no kidding. They are wonderful pencils with beautiful vibrant color, strong-- the lead is the perfect hardness/softness (what would you call this?). And, they are really inexpensive which is a huge surprise.We bought the set of 48 but was sent a set of 50-- the 48 set with 2 bonus pencils.I would recommend these for school and home and, if you are thinking of trying a new pencil for professional work, I'd recommend them for that, too. I am not a colored pencil artist, but I have used pencils professionally and I just cannot see any difference in these and the Prismacolor. And, I can say unequivocally that these are much better than the lesser priced student pencils or .

The pencils in this Prang set, so far, all seem in good condition. But, box was destroyed, they arrived in the box in these photos. If these were going to be a gift I would have sent them back. The package looks as if it had been returned already, re-taped and then sent them for my order. I received them in a thin envelope without much protection. It's not worth it to me to return them, so I am keeping them. I like the Pang pencils for tiny areas and small details because they are crisp, not as soft as the Prisma Color. I've seen other comments complaining about this issue so I though I'd send some pictures.

Color pencils come in various qualities and colors and this pretty much met my expectation of the price point. I think I am getting my money's worth with these.
