Bought a number of those, no contamination in any so far. I like the contrast of the darker color. The nutrients-wise, it is at least as good as the other agar liquids I used.

I have ordered many MEA agar plates through Amazon when in a pinch and most companies pour them too thin and they arrive detached, these are thick and always arrive in great condition (with very few exceptions and the company stands behind their product). Additionally these come sealed (in plastic melted in sections of 2-3) very well and I have not had any contamination issues as of yet, compared with many other vendors that ship in a bag with a tie at the top. It’s worth noting, if you use these for mycology (like isolating a oyster MSS) the mycelium tends to eat up the coloring and can leave blotchy areas that show red or blue… not to worry, this is normal and a good indication that the mycelium is thriving.

Arrived in good sterile condition. However, it appears that the charcoal claim may be somewhat misleading. The plates appear to be dyed dark green, as opposed to filled with charcoal. This is evident by the change in color of the media as it is consumed by your organism of study. The plates transform from green to a orange color while colonizing samples. Unless of course there is a reaction occurring that I am unaware of, it appears that this is not activated charcoal.

I’ve tried agar made for bacterial growth but these were ideal for mycelium! The agar I used before was weak compared to this agar, this agar grew incredibly strong cultures from transfers I made from my weak agar plates. Excellent product!

4 of my plates came contaminated with green mold- probably trich. I noticed some of my cultured plates developed this and I kept one plate separate, never opened and never touched - ie left in the packaging. I use a still air box for culturing and so contamination issues are rare. After I noticed the contamination on the cultured plates I decided to check the control plate and sure enough it is contaminated with the same mold as well as a few very tiny specks of slower growing mold as well. For $3 a piece I expected high quality, sterile agar.

The quality of these plates are top notch and if you have to contact the seller for any reason they are very polite and quick to respond as well. This will be the only place I buy agar from now on!

I never take the time to write reviews but I just had to for these agar dishes! I’ve bought about 20 and never had one with an issue! I will definitely be ordering more. The agar does look awesome when you hold it up to the light and where the mycelium is it changes colors 🔥

Product arrived fine and in a timely manner. I innoculated 5 trays the next day. Saw no growth whatsoever. Innoculated another five and still nothing. I used two different cultures, and also let the original five sit open overnight and I misted them in hopes of seeing some activity. Again nothing. Perhaps the agar may have dried too much before getting to be but, I am not happy. Lost a strain that I had been working on for a while now!
