The USDA recommends pressure canning as the only safe method for low-acid foods such as vegetables, meats, and poultry. The Presto 16-quart pressure canner is more than adequate for any home canning needs. It's a professional-quality tool, made of heavy-duty aluminum, with stay-cool handles and a strong-lock steel lid. An accompanying rack fits down into the pot to keep jars up off the bottom, so that liquid can circulate underneath. And it can do double duty as a large pressure cooker. It's easy to cook healthfully with pressure cookers, since the food retains so much more of its nutrients and flavor.

The sturdy lid locks down during canning or cooking; an inner sealing ring keeps the steam in. In addition to a pop-up pressure indicator and a simple steam-release mechanism, there is an overpressure plug that will let off steam if it builds up excessively. The pressure dial gauge gives an accurate reading so that pressure can be kept constant during canning. This pressure canner is also a cooker that's useful for weeknight dinners or for any meal that needs to come together quickly. An accompanying booklet contains more than 50 recipes, ranging from basic soup stocks to stews and pot roasts--even sweets like English Plum Pudding and Brown Bread. Tenderize lean cuts of beef or pork, or cook chicken, fish, or vegetables faster than you can in a microwave, and without losing moisture.

Nonabrasive cleansers are best for cleaning this aluminum pressure cooker, though occasional use of a fine metal polish will help the exterior keep its shine. The lid of the Presto 16-quart pressure canner is not immersible. In addition, the sealing ring should be removed after each use to allow cleaning of the inside rim of the lid. The dial gauge is delicate; detailed care instructions are found in the accompanying booklet. The vent pipe is simple to keep clean with a small brush or pipe cleaner, and both the air vent/cover lock and the overpressure plug are removable. The pressure cooker measures approximately 14-4/5 by 14-4/5 by 12 inches and carries a 12-year limited warranty. A detailed instruction and recipe booklet is included; special safety issues that pertain to pressure cookers are clearly explained. --Garland Withers

I've pressure canned twice now with this Presto 01755 16-Quart canner. First potatoes, then mushrooms. Works really well. I have had no issues to far. Everything looks sturdy and high quality. The 16-quart version is considered small, but I'm glad that I bought it, because it is really large.Comes with detailed instructions. I also recommend downloading the "USDA Complete Guide to Home Canning" for free from the USDA web site.It is not hard to adjust your stove to keep a certain pressure, according to the recipe. If you are like me, you still want to stay near the canner during the process, so this is not a burden. However, if you want an adjustable pressure valve, it can be bought separately. If you are new to canning, it can be a bit nervous to do it the first time, because the canner will make whistling noises from steam, everything is scolding hot and you hear sounds of warping metal. This seems to be normal, and doesn't affect the outcome. I'm happy I bought it.

I purchased this based on recommendations in the safe home canning groups on social media. Since then, I've mostly done water bath canning on a small scale - jelly and vegetable pickles. I've only used it once for pressure canning chicken broth, and plan to try again in the near future. Everything turned out perfectly. The pressure canning function requires careful "babysitting" to keep the pressure in range (especially if you have an electric stovetop). This is normal. If it presents an obstacle, consider an electric pressure canner instead. Read and follow all directions. Always use tested (certified) recipes when doing home canning. One excellent resource is the National Center for Home Food Preservation website (nchfp.uga.edu). If you process a lot of food, you may want a larger size canner. However, for me it's perfect.

The product was shipped promptly in good packaging and with all pieces and parts present. Assembly of the gauge to the lid was very easy. I followed the instructions and practiced with 4 cups of water in the canner. The pressure regulator began to rock at the same time the gauge registered 15 psi. Good sign. I began a methodical process of reducing the heat to get to and maintain 11 psi, which is recommended for my altitude. I wanted to figure out what position my stove dial needed to be at or around for this to happen. Unfortunately, my 1994 electric coil range has too much variability at any given position on the dial to be able to maintain a fairly consistent pressure without frequent little adjustments. I did three "practice sessions" trying to nail down where I need to be on my stove's dial to stay at 11 psi or only slightly above. Because of the size of the canner, I can only use it on the big burner on the front of the stove, so trying another burner was not an option. In the end I decided this unit on my particular stove would take way too much babysitting and adjusting, so I returned it. Disappointing, but maybe with a newer and different type of stove this would work for me. This is a solid priduct, hence the 5 stars. I share this experience because others may not be considering that the stove is a contributor to being able to use this type of canner successfully. I purchased a Presto 16-quart electric pressure canner instead and look forward to its arrival.

Haven't actually processed any thing but did conduct a test and canner worked as expected. Presto is a good name that has been around for a long time. Hope to get lots of use this summer to help preserve garden produce and help reduce food costs. Not a huge pot but big enough for my needs without breaking an arm moving the pot. Purchased the extra canning weight but don't think I'll have to use it. Also purchased extra racks for canner so I can stack 1/2 pt. jars in the pot if I want. A great purchase all around without spending a fortune on the other type of canner.

Not induction compatible. I searched for an induction compatible canner and this came up. I have the larger 23 Presto canner which works perfectly with induction this smaller one does not.

My old pressure cooker stopped working so looked around and settled on this unit. I was so impressed with the quality and the size is perfect for canning. It is also very easy to use. The price point is fantastic also!

I am so happy I finally bought this canner. I was so scared of using a pressure canner, but my need to preserve got greater than the thought of something going terribly wrong while using. It turns out there was nothing to worry about. I have already used it several times, got excellent results, and got all my vegetables in season at a cheaper price, and the stove DID NOT blow up! lol. I would highly recommend this canner!
