I got into that mini pottery hobby. I’ve only used porcelain clay in it. In my 750 watt microwave I need to first heat it for 5 minutes then add the dried pottery. I then heat it in 5 minute increments but end up firing about 25 minutes before clay glows. So be aware it takes awhile, it’s not 10 min fire like they say. It’s fun though, give it a try. Be sure to use microwave clay risers under it, it singed/burned my cork trivet enough to smell a little smoky. Also be sure to remove glass rotating tray, can’t imagine what could happen if you left that in.Glaze: tried low fire glaze and again need to fire longer than anticipated to reach gloss.Powdery: Be aware the kiln releases powder each time it’s handled, like dried clay does. So after I wipe down everything to avoid powder transferring to other places.

I haven't used this yet because there are no directions and I can't seem to find any. Does anyone have any suggestions?

This kiln is exactly as advertised. I have been having a blast making glass and ceramic pendants, cabishons and the like. I know some ceramicists say not to waste your money. i would say if you have no ceramic experience, go take a beginners course and watch videos which include how to fire, what various temps do, the importance of vitrification etc. It takes some time to get used to and I would start with the smallest kiln which is a fine size and gets a consistent heat all the way through. So far I have had great results! i’m really enjoying learning about fusing glass. And having a way to fire my pendants and even tiny tea lights or tea cups is funOddly the material it is made from is much softer than my small Microwave kiln. As you can see it left a dent when i fell and dropped the lid onto the base. any time the door nicks it the it sheds a piece of the outside which is the softer part. Also it is wider but not taller inside than the small kilns. I wish it were taller and may try stacking two in the future. if you do try microwave kilns, wear your safety gear and have fun!

This just doesn't get as hot as my small ones. It doesn't seem to have the same material inside the top as the others do. I don't know if that was just a defect or what

Will not work with all Microwaves. I bought a new 1100wt Hamilton Beach for $70 at Walmart. I was not able to melt anything after 25 mins I gave up. I got onto a FB group just for microwave kiln fusing. Found out that some brands don't work because some modern ones have an intelliwave detection system that causes then to drastically reduce power if strange materials are detected in it brands don't work that well - Samsung, Deawoo and Sharp, no Emerson. This was all off that group. So I found an older cheap one in town off CL works great!

The only thing missing from this is an instruction guide for temperatures, times and materials used. It does work but takes some time getting the time just right. Write down what you do and the result to get a good system in place.

I can say I like the size very much unfortunately that's the only "good" thing I can say , it's a great size. It's cheaply made, getting it out if the box , gently of course as not to break left a thumb print on the firing service. I've tried it 3 times and every single time I'm leave with lease service area , it flakes away Everytime I use it (and yes, I'm using shelf paper, the best in my opinion Bullseye Thin Fire. So it's definitely not the paper or user error) . I hope your experience turns out better than mine.

Very impressed by how well this works! I've fired pottery and even managed to glaze my products. I can't afford a big kiln and this is a life changer!

I used this ONCE - initially for 1 minute, then checked it, then did it for 3 minutes. When I checked it, there was a crack around the circumference of the lid and the kiln paper was brown - the glass had not melted at all. Our microwave oven is 1000 watts so exactly what was suggested. As we didn’t use this til after we’d had it for a few weeks, it’s too late to return it thru Amazon.

This kiln is non-functional as it does not heat to stage where glass fuses. Have tried various microwave times and power levels. Have a smaller kiln that works beautifully but this large one is not worth the money paid for it. Very disappointed.
