So I had one of these, and it just wasn’t safe. I had to attach a propane tank with a hose, light by hand at the nozzle, and it was a long pole that was unwieldy and had a weird center of gravity. This one is much simpler and gives me much better control. You attach a 1lb propane tank (you can attach a large tank with an adapter and hose if you choose, I advise against it), pressure is controlled by a knob on top of the ‘gun’ and ignition is via a piezo lighter controlled by a trigger. It’s idiot-proof and works great. The flame can be adjusted from a gentle yellow flame for gently toasting something to a full on blue jet for melting ice, lighting a fire, scaring your enemies away, etc. While the ‘gun’ is plastic, it’s heavy duty plastic and feels substantial. The guts of the thing are all metal and while the nozzle does heat up, it’s far enough away from the plastic to keep it from melting or scorching. While the gun-shaped housing is more of a bullpup shape, it still keeps you far enough from the flame to get the job done while you’re safely backed away. It’s really quite fun and the neighbors will absolutely do a double take.

The only thing I wish this “flame thrower†did was project flame a little further but I guess that’s a different kind of product. Otherwise, this works perfectly. It’s the ultimate lighter. One can of propane is all you need. Simply hook it up to this torch, and you have an easy way to light charcoal for a grill, fireplaces, campfires, whatever you may choose. All you need to do is open the valve for the gas and pull the trigger a couple of times. The size of the flame is easily controlled by the same valve used to start it. Less gas, smaller flamer, more gas, larger flame. Simple.Considering the size of this and how it looks, it’s extremely light weight. The only thing that makes it heavier is the propane canister. My husband and I used to argue about who got to fight with lighting the charcoal for the grill but not anymore. Plus, it just looks cool!

This is a flamethrower. No other name for it. I got it to sear steaks that I cook in my sous vide. It gives a marvelous charr. It also looks like something my GI Joes had. The level of wish fulfillment this gives me cannot be under valued. I love this thing. It feels great. Looks awesome. Works great. I find excuses to use it. It's that wonderful. I would have paid triple and still been ecstatic

This looks like a weapon and does shoot out flames, adjust value to get the level of flame you want. This is one of those things that you've lived without, but having it makes certain things so much easier. It's simple to set up---hook up a small propane tank (you can use a bigger one but then you need an adapter hose), pull the trigger (I'd have it set to the lowest setting to begin) and light your fire. You can use it in the kitchen too to sear steaks, baked goods, etc but here's the caveat---I wouldn't necessarily use this indoors unless it's shooting into a fireplace. Having this random flame in the kitchen might be too much. But nice, convenient flame torch to have.

Not only is this Dutywand Propane Grill Torch Gun functional, it's also a TON of fun to use!My husband and I have found several creative uses for this torch gun, but probably our favorite use is starting fires in our backyard chiminea. This can be used for finishing food, like for creme brulee or steaks. You can use it to start fires in a fireplace or chiminea, or it can be used as a torch lighter for dab attachments. I'm sure there are lots more uses for the Dutywand Propane Grill Torch Gun that I'm not thinking of right now.Overall, I'm pleased with this blow torch, and I look forward to finding out all the ways I can use this awesome tool!

It took some convincing for my wife to accept me ordering this but after a crème brûlée, blackened chicken, and a finished soup-vide steak she is as sold as I am. Clearly this is somewhat unwieldily as a cooking tool but it’s a great fit for our outside kitchenette. It works with standard propane tanks used for camping so easy to work with. Recommended!
